Daily Painting 1442 Shady Harbor

This painting sort of painted itself, I started out painting something else and then I saw the trees in the background coming out and I liked how they were looking.  It was reminding me of the St. Lucie river, my dad and I used to go boating there a lot when I was growing up.  We had a 14 foot long Lone Star aluminum boat that looked a lot like the boat in the painting.

We would set in at White City park and explore the river, looking for alligators and turtles.  There were some sandy spots we could put in and then explore on foot, it was a lot of fun.

The painting is 5 x 7 inches,  oil on masonite.  $100.

Luscious Long Stemmed Roses by Pamela Blaies

12" x 24"
oil on canvas

These long-stemmed peach roses demanded that I use a narrowly proportioned canvas. I layed them in a haphazard fashion, but carefully so that the elegant stems would traverse this way and that across the composition. The copper pot sits in a sweet spot, perfect for catching all the subtle reflections. I love the luscious feeling that roses lend to a painting.

"Reflections in Time" by Niki Gulley

“Reflections in Time” ©2012 Niki Gulley
SOLD • Oil on canvas • 24” x 36”

Just sold! This painting is inspired by one of my favorite spots just ten minutes from our home in Dallas. It was a perfect autumn day with a slight breeze and the peaking autumn colors were more vibrant than usual. With such a gentle wind, the vivid foliage and gorgeous fluffy clouds were reflected fairly clearly in the water and yet at the same time, I chose to create fluid moving strokes to suggest the peaceful energy in that moment.

RETRO, 50S, COUNTRY, NOSTALGIA, AMERICANA, ABANDONED MOTEL, TOM BROWN ORIGINAL OIL PAINTING

I recently came across a box of long-forgotten sketches in the back of my studio; things that I had sketched when they caught my eye along country roads. Nostalgic glimpses of vanishing America and leftover memories of a bygone era.

For years these sketches have been packed away and forgotten, but I'm having fun bringing them to life now after all this time. This painting is based on one of those sketches.

Keep an eye on my blog for more of these cherished memories of bygone days. I'll show a couple more each week.

"Long Shadows," White Rock Lake by Niki Gulley

“Long Shadows” White Rock Lake ©2011 Niki Gulley
12” x 24” oil on canvas

Sunset draws lengthening shadows across the grassy waters edge at Sunset Bay, White Rock. The lake shimmers in the evening glow as sky high above fills with deep blues and before you the soft, moody colors stretch out, long lines beckoning you into the complex diagonal composition. Rich texture models the leaves, branches and tree trunk rimmed in the sunset and shadow. Vivid masses of color form the foliage on the opposite bank, fall at its peak. The long cast shadows draw you into the tranquil landscape and the peaceful, dreamy sunset at White Rock Lake.

Abstract "Docked For The Day" Reflections On The Water by California Janet Bludau

8" x 8" Oil
My favorite part of this painting is the end of the dock -
strange but true!  I worked on this painting over a long period
of time.  I kept doing little things to it and then putting it aside.
I must have changed the boat colors 3 times, the reflection was added to or changed several times.  You get the picture. Finally I looked at the piece and said, "Yes."

The Last of Summer's Hydrangeas by Pamela Blaies

24" x 20"
oil on canvas

This is probably the last painting I will be able to do this summer of fresh hydrangeas from my garden. They've had about all they can take of this August weather. I put the freshly cut, sun-faded hydrangeas in a Ball jar and added some daisies and a touch of purple liriope blooms from my yard. The cool lighting along with lots of contrast gives this one a little extra drama.

"Golden Moment, White Rock Lake" by Niki Gulley

"Golden Moment, White Rock Lake" ©2012 Niki Gulley
Textured oil on canvas • 12" x 24"

On a peaceful autumn day last fall, I went out with my camera to White Rock Lake and captured this beautiful sunset behind the Dallas skyline. I liked how the pampas grass and various plants in the foreground were back lit by the setting sun and how the water's surface was shimmering from the low light, adding to a sense of mystery and tranquility in that golden moment.

When I paint or draw

I keep my mind’s thought-garden

Completely free of self-doubt-weeds.
The Artist in me has three
Faithful, sleepless
And self-giving friends:
A newness-eye, a oneness-heart
And a fulness-life.

The heart of my Art
And the heart of a child
Are extremely fond of each other.
They love each other deeply;
They need each other constantly;
They are interdependent, sleepless

Irises by Pamela Blaies

24" x 18"
oil on canvas

I passed some purple irises just the other day in a clump under a neighbor's mailbox. The blooms were already way past their first blush, but I'll have to remember that spot and catch it at its peak for next year. I found these irises at a flower shop. The color of them were eye-catching. Their tall, regal beauty is accentuated by the slender glass vase.

Original oil painting Provence Lavender by Karen Tarlton

Oil

France! Beauty everywhere....... and this place smells lovely too.
"I see my path, but I don't know where it leads. Not knowing where I'm going is what inspires me to travel it."
~Rosalia de Castro
My heart is there.....France! Often times, journeys of the heart are some of the best trips we take: Painted from photos of past travels, this original oil depicts the most beautiful place to see Provence lavender - the Senanque Abbey, a Cistercian abbey near the village of Gordes.
Some people see something lovely and want to take a picture and just enjoy gazing at it.
When I see something beautiful, I say to myself, "I have to paint that"
My instinct is to paint it immediately, right away and that is why I fell in love with plein air painting.
Not much time to paint when traveling, there's too much to see! I've learned to be patient and store the images in the back of my mind until I'm ready to load up my palette with large amounts of paint and dive into it with my trusty little knife.
This one was painted in the studio and is just dry!

Diptych - Landscape by Kay Wyne

This diptych is probably completed....I want to look at it for a couple of days on the easel. Maybe a few minor changes....and I need a name for this piece. Each canvas panel is 30" x 15" and needs framing. I had some ideas when I sat down to paint with my palette knife....I wanted a colorful, quick painting with some hard edges. No fussing at all. Just lines, shapes and color. I will post more paintings that are on my easel tomorrow....thanks, Kay at kay@kwyne.com.

"Muted Hues" - Aspen Tree oil painting by Niki Gulley

"Muted Hues" ©2012 Niki Gulley
36" x 36" oil on canvas

I love painting aspen trees and I usually work with a bold color palette, but in this painting, I wanted to convey a quieter, more peaceful mood. Opting for more pastel shades, and incorporating calming blues and greens, Muted Hues reminds me of the serenity I feel while walking through the forest on a cool autumn day, being totally immersed in nature, not a care in the world. I hope you are transported, too!

Daily Painting 1441 Secret Pond Impasto Oil Painting

Its a hundred degrees out, you are walking through the savannas and here is this lovely cool pool of water... Nice day for a swim!

The painting is 12 x 16, oil on masonite, lots of thick paint, nice textures.  Its not one of those paintings where you can't tell if its a photo or not.  I had a grand time with this, I laid the paint down and pushed and prodded it all about. <!-- NODP begin dailypainters html template 232147 --><form style='margin-top:10px;margin-bottom:10px;' action="https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr" method="post" target="_blank"><input type="hidden" name="cmd" value="_xclick"/><input type="hidden" name="business" value="lorartbus@aol.com"/><input type="hidden" name="item_name" value="Daily Painting 1441 Secret Pond Impasto Oil Painting"/><input type="hidden" name="item_number" value="Daily Painting 1441 Secret Pond Impasto Oil Painting 527_520_232147" /><input type="hidden" name="invoice" value="527_520_232147"><input type="hidden" name="amount" value="500" /><input type="hidden" name="shipping" value="0"/><input type="hidden" name="no_shipping" value="0"><input type="hidden" name="currency_code" value="USD"/><input type="hidden" name="lc" value="US"/><input type="hidden" name="bn" value="PP-BuyNowBF"/><input style='margin-top:5px;margin-right:10px;' type="image" width="62" height="31" src="http://www.dailypainters.com/images/paypal_button.gif" border="0" name="submit" alt="Make payments with PayPal - it's fast, free and secure!" align='left'><div>Buy this painting on PayPal</div><div>Price: $500 USD</div><div>Or, <a href="mailto:lorartbus@aol.com">send me an email</a></div></form><!-- end dailypainters html template 232147 -->
