"Feathered Sky Over the Dead Sea (Israel)"
Well,
we're just skipping all over the world these days, aren't we? It feels
like an armchair tour to me and it's a blast to relive these memories. I
had the most wonderful time painting this piece of art, absolutely
loved it! It's sort of a different size, just realized that a few
moments ago when I measured it, but I don't really care, it's worth a
special frame, in my (modest) opinion. Skies are an absolute blast to
paint and who wouldn't like the colors of the Dead Sea? Much of Israel
seems reminiscent to me to parts of Utah, red earth, blue skies. The
top of the sky can be deep blue, the middle almost a turquoise color,
and the bottom an aqua, hints of green. Not to mention different sort
of clouds, these being the most intriguing. I am so happy with this
baby!!!!
"Feathered
Sky Over the Dead Sea (Israel)", 15.25"x12", unframed palette knife and
brush oil painting on panel, $190 plus s/h to be determined at time of
sale, Paypal accepted, click button below, or write me at

Thanks for looking!

and begin 2013
Hard to believe.
I still believe some of the things that were the most
beautiful last year will be my favorites this year.
For example, I will always Love:
a Starry sky
Reflective water
Sunsets
A warm fire and a cozy blanket
a really great cup of coffee
a really great glass of wine
a homemade meal
my child's embrace
my husband's smile
May your New year be as great as your old one.

My goal is to deliberate the balance of representation and design. I am particularly moved by artists who are able to take abstraction further, offering more information with less detail. My work is not to reconstruct or comment on social, natural or cultural reality. While I have great respect for artists who do, I think my path has been towards the creation of studies of time and place using an acute understanding of design and color theory.
I believe my work is expressionistic and is differentiated by the unique and arbitrary layering of complex colors. I am directed by the fundamentals of interior design and elements of design, especially intrigued by light. I am powered by my own highly personal vision and I encourage people who view my work to consider my process of decision-making. It is a course that is followed without hesitation and from which; I am not able to deviate. A day of successful painting is it the best of days. It is a selfish endeavor. I wish for the viewer to arrive at a personal determination, framed in their own experiences and therefore, apart from reference, I prefer not to name my work.

"April Sunset, Montepulciano, Italy" by Karla Nolan
Sometimes
it's just good to keep things simple. Sunsets are simple, aren't
they? One each day, even if it's cloudy and we aren't fortunate enough
to observe them. We stood at the top of the hill in Montepulciano and
waited for this one -- it was unnervingly beautiful, a wonderful way to
end our Italian day in a hill town in Tuscany. Yum.

I painted these sunflowers with extremely thick paint and palette knife. The resulting canvas is loaded with texture, color and energy! I've painted it on 1 and 1/2 inch deep stretcher bars, with the image continuing around the edges so that it can be hung as is frameless for a contemporary look.
This sunflower scene looks great hung alone to brighten up a little spot, or in a grouping with some of my sunflower or floral scenes. Hang them horizontally (like pictured above), vertically, on a diagonal or stacked (as seen below). Take a look at nikigulley.com/the-art/textured-oils/ to find complimentary companion pieces.

Niki Gulley’s passion for painting began in grade school when she had to draw something as mundane as shoes for art class, and loved every minute of it. Her parents enrolled her in private lessons and she was hooked. Following her childhood in Chicago, Niki relocated to Dallas to pursue an art major at SMU. Since she disliked the freezing Illinois winters, Dallas seemed like the place to stay after graduating.
Next, Gulley entered the world of advertising, working as art director for a local magazine. After a few years passed, Niki felt like something was missing. So she started painting again every free moment. This is what she had been missing and she began to feel fulfilled again.
It is from this feeling of true joy that Niki translates onto canvas. She seeks to capture the beauty of our landscape, utilizing vivid colors in oil paint and pastels to convey a particular mood. Gulley invites you to reconnect with nature and escape day-to-day responsibilities along with her in these creations.

A Little Studio Time by Pamela Blaies
12" x 9"
oil
Today I enjoyed some time in the studio after all of the fun family Christmas festivities of the past week. After putting a dark tone on the canvas, I took a cloth and wiped out the areas that I was going to add light. Then I blocked in the shadows, letting the toned canvas show through some of the brushstrokes. Last of all I added the light mostly with palette knife. This is a study for a larger painting I'm planning for tomorrow and I'm really happy with the loose feel of it.
I love to share my art and inspiration. Click HERE to sign up for my email newsletter and receive a free gift of postcards.
Stars and Stripes, Palette Knife U. S. Flag Painting Judy Mackey
"Stars and Stripes"
30" x 30" x 1 1/2, Oil on Gallery-wrapped Canvas
Available
Last week, just before Christmas, I had coffee with Texas Contemporary Abstract Artist, Deanna Kienast who paints huge huge abstracts. I'd painted several of these "close up" of the American Flag but on a small scale, six by six inches and she suggested I try a larger version. So here it is.
It is kind of hard to tell what size this is looking at this photo of painting because all of the background is cropped out.
But here is a photo of the work-in-progress painting sitting on my easel:
I'd just blocked in colors. I actually like the blocked in colors, except that the starts are not quite right yet.
Here is a view of a detail of the finished painting. There are a lot of unexpected colors in the flag - such as yellow and green:

I love the way colors touch and mix and the lines made with the tool.

I'm Kathy Willis, an Arizona native residing in Flagstaff, a late-comer painter, blogger, and trailrunner. I've long been inspired by my southwest homeland, however it was a life-changing journey walking the 500 mile Camino de Santiago in Spain in celebration of my fiftieth birthday, that I discovered a desire to express myself through art. Now, after several years dabbling in art classes, and sixty fast approaching, the urgency to commit to my painting journey has taken root. As they say, "If not now...When?"
I started this blog to motivate my daily painting practice, more easily share my work, and hopefully encourage other late-comers as well. I will be posting new small paintings at least weekly. Thank you for visiting my blog. Buen Camino

"Salmon Poppy Trio" by Karla Nolan
A
little more Springtime heading your way -- these three salmon colored
poppies were growing in our garden several years ago and were
reminiscent of poppies I saw growing in Monet's Giverny gardens. They
are more unusual in their hues, we're used to bright red or orange
poppies. The seed heads are fun to poke into, as the poppy seed is very,
very tiny -- think poppy bagels, that's how small these little bits of
life are -- and just look at what it gets to be when it's planted and
comes full circle! Beautiful, colorful, happy poppies...

is an award winning artist who paints exclusively with a palette knife. She holds a fine art degree and has worked as a professional graphic designer for many years. She began painting in oil again after taking a palette knife workshop through the Copley Society of Art in Boston and was immediately hooked. The thick, painterly, yet highly detailed strokes of color are trademarks of her style.

A little about me...I'm 35 years of age, At 16 I found out I had Cancer (nasal pharyngeal carcinoma). I was successfully treated at the University of Chicago hospitals. A few years later at age 24 I suffered a Brain Stem Hemorrhagic Stroke. Which ultimately left my right side(both leg and arm), the left side of my face and my voice paralyzed as well as nystagmus ( involuntary rhythmic shaking of the eyes). The nystagmus is the real culprit affecting my art more so then use of my left arm.
I was convinced by my family to give painting a shot, I didn't have much hope in seeing the end result. As I was right handed my entire life and could do nothing with my left hand.(to this day, I still can't write in a straight, even, uniform line) not to mention the hand tremors also left by the stroke..Well it turned out I did get use to painting with the opposite hand. It also turned out that I really enjoyed myself and have ultimately become passionate about painting.
So thats a quick explanation in how I got started in art. I hope you will stick around and check out my work. Sign up for email alerts or Like my Facebook Fan Page Enjoy

Indian Paintbrush Painting by Niki Gulley
"Texas Treats IV" ©2012 Niki Gulley
12" x 12" textured mixed media on canvas
If interested in more information on pricing and purchasing, please e-mail Niki Gulley.
12" x 12" textured mixed media on canvas
I painted this Indian Paintbrush canvas with extremely thick paint and palette knife. The resulting image is loaded with texture, color and energy! I've painted it on 1 and 1/2 inch deep stretcher bars, with the image continuing around the edges so that it can be hung as is frameless for a contemporary look.
This Texas wildflower image looks great hung alone to brighten up a little spot, or in a grouping with a bluebonnet painting or some of my sunflower scenes. Hang them horizontally, vertically, on a diagonal or stacked.

Oranges and Indian Hawthorn - Daily Study #4 by Pamela Blaies
8" x 10"
oil
The days are crazy lately, but I am enjoying my little daily studies. I found these beautiful blue berries all over my indian hawthorn bushes, so I clipped some to bring inside to paint. Using the transparent washes that leave some of the toned canvas showing gives an interesting effect when used in conjunction with impasto knife texture in the oranges and berries.
I love to share my art and inspiration. Click HERE to sign up for my email newsletter and receive a free gift of postcards.
