I've mentioned this a time or two, but it's difficult to contain myself these days. Because each time I wake up now I think, I LOVE my job! Today was the final day of my 3 day North Texas workshop for January, and I had students from South Carolina, Louisiana, Kansas, Oklahoma, and all over the Lone Star State. I'm planning some fun giveaways in honor of Valentine's for my next workshop coming right up. Pink colors, candy, spa related gifts, the possibilities are just ENDLESS! I was really blown away by the paintings my students created this week, they produced peonies, sunflowers, delphiniums and vases in multiple styles and colors, they worked from life, and they tackled every subject with enthusiasm. I've shared just a few glimpses of their paintings on my blog today that brightened up the room this weekend, enjoy!

Blue Times Two Delphiniums was one of my 2 class demonstrations today in North Texas. Tomorrow we paint peonies! It's a bit like winning the lotto to find fresh delphs and peonies in the market in early January. Well, okay, a bit like winning one of those $100 scratch off tickets at least! My next workshop is February 14-16, in Irving, Texas, and you are cordially invited! Put a little joy in your brush and let's make brilliant flowers bloom. My Irving, Texas workshops are ideal for the traveling student with a shuttle that picks you up at the airport and drives you to class each day. I provide solvent for students who fly in and also ship your wet paintings home for you after, not to mention coffee and donuts every day!

It was a banner day in Flower Mound Studio, we had a visitor who flew all the way from Arizona for a private lesson today. Sondra did such a beautiful job on her sunflower and daisy, and whipped out her large painting in just under 2 hours!
Studio helpers AnnieBee and Hannah decided Sondra had actually flown across the country specifically to visit with them. Hannah got to perch on Sondra's lap during my morning demo, and Annie convinced our special guest to throw her toy at least once or twice. Howie and Java joined in the fun at one point, when the doggy gate came down and a bit of pug style pandemonium ensued. Never a dull moment in Howie's house! Thanks so much for visiting Sondra, we hope to see you and Mike again very soon....

Tea Roses and Hydrangeas was one of my class demonstrations in Collierville, Tennessee last week. I've hardly unpacked and it's time to tape up boxes again! I leave Monday for Rockwall, Texas, to teach a 3-day class. This is my first workshop in a town near where I grew up. Rockwall has grown so much over the years, from a very small community now to a beautiful lakeside getaway with great shopping, restaurants, and shoreline homes. Stay tuned for class photos and colorful flowers - something tells me we will be painting fall colors, golds, and warm whites to celebrate the cold front blowing in tonight!

Mountain Retreat Aspen Path is finished, a commissioned work that has been growing in the studio for a few weeks during my daily paintings for the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge. My husband liked this commission so much, he ordered one for our home to go over the fireplace!
Registration is now open for my Dallas Arboretum Workshop November 9. You are invited to join me in the most beautiful gardens in North Texas to paint your favorite flowers in brilliant color! My Arboretum workshops fill up fast, so don't delay, Megan and Joy are my hostesses and are absolutely wonderful. They've been known to pop in with a big bag of chocolate in the afternoon!

Antique White Roses is the daily newbie in Flower Mound Studio, and painting number 22 in the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge. I had intended when I began this painting do give these roses a blue gray background, but, after peeking at the almost finished painting through the eye of my camera lens, one swatch of gold peeked through and changed my mind. I use my camera lens as my viewfinder near the end of most paintings, I'm always amazed at what I can see there that the naked eye does not always immediately reveal.

Busy Weekend Filled with Beauty by Pamela Blaies

Two art receptions kept me busy over the weekend. I was thrilled with the gorgeous opening reception for my solo show at the Goodrich Gallery in downtown Dallas. There was a nice turnout and several pieces sold during the opening including "Antique Roses." If you didn't get a chance to make it to the opening, stop by and see it sometime this month - it is worth the trip!

Tonight I will be at the Royal Palms Resort doing a demo as I have done on some previous Friday nights. It's late notice now, but if you are in the area stop by. I will be there next Friday also. I'll be back in the studio tomorrow packing some sold paintings and prints, cleaning up and getting ready for some serious studio painting. The sales on my e-book, How to Create Beautiful Paintings Using Foundational Concepts have been going very well. There have been a couple of glitches. 1. I inverted two terms, but corrected that and got the new version out the few that bought at first. 2. I set up the sale with paypal, an email with the download link was supposed to go out after your purchase. It has been inconsistent with some people getting the link and others not. I've had to keep an eye on the paypal and send out the link as quickly as I can. So, that is disappointing. I have now talked to the person that works on my website about finding a cart for me to do what I want. Hopefully, this will be resolved soon. This may be Texas, but I'm still in Oregon. I was itching to paint some mood paintings. This is one of them. I used a small 6x6 plein air that I painted in Austin, TX in May while at the OPA Show. Even though I invent the color of my mood paintings, the plein air paintings are very useful to me. The plein air will show me the relationship of colors to each other, which is something that I am still concerned about in paintings that I invent colors. I did change the lighting direction of this painting. I don't always do that, but I felt to balance the painting it was best to have the light come from the right rather than the left. This also left more sky open to put the lightest warmest color in this space. This painting is a little later in the day than the one that I painted yesterday, thus making the sky a cooler color. The ground colors reflect that sky color becoming cooler also.

I'm excited and humbled to have my painting Strength and Serenity accepted the the American Impressionist Society National Exhibition and Show. It was a good day painting Strength and Serenity in Yosemite at the beginning of my trip.

Visit My Exhibit in Historic Downtown Grapevine by Pamela Blaies

This weekend, I installed a solo exhibit at the Lancaster Theater Art Gallery, 300 S. Main St in historic downtown Grapevine, Texas. It features many of my palette knife paintings full of color and texture. The brick walls and tin ceiling are awesome! Go check it out anytime between 9 - 5 pm Monday - Friday. The exhibit closes on April 9th.

My first try at this sort of loose, almost abstract painting of the Texas flag turned out so well that I had to try it again. The first one, "Lone Star" is on exhibit from Mar 2 to April 17th at the Grapevine Convention and Visitors Bureau on Main Street in Grapevine, TX as part of the Grapevine Art Project's 2013 Juried Art and Sales event. Stop by the Convention and Visitor's Bureau if you're visiting Grapevine to see over 100 works by local artists.

dreamy designer color palette!
I'll have to upload pictures when it's finished but it's going to be a calm retreat of a room.
Lots of silvery blues and greys with warm accent colors.....this is what I like.
