Joyful Day by Kay Wyne

Joyful Day
Contemporary Floral Landscape
60" x 36" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
I love to paint on a large surface.  It is liberating to make big wide brushstrokes with a brush or apply loads of paint with a palette knife.  A 60" x 36" canvas is fun, challenging and my image/subject matter is always you can see below I did stop and take some pics along my painting journey.

First, I had an idea in my head and thought that I would sketch it out with charcoal on the canvas.  Then I scrubbed in some colors.  And more colors.  Finally getting the white canvas covered up.

I wanted my color palette to be in cool lavenders and greys....and some greens.  I got off-track as you can see in the fifth photo.  I cut loose with some oranges, reds, and blues.  The next day when I came into the studio, I realized that I had gotten de-railed.  So I spent more than two hours mixing wonderful purples. magentas, greens, and greys to bring the colors back to my original plan.  Of course I used huge amounts of oils and there is texture and depth to this painting.

This painting is drying at the studio, and tomorrow is day #1 in Leslie Saeta's 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge.  Check out Leslie's blog...It's always fun to see what everyone is posting on a daily basis.  Thanks for looking at my blog....Have an artful day.  Kay Wyne

Last week I got interested in doing seascapes. I was at the beach with my camera and was inspired by all the beautiful blues and greens in the water. I did 3 8x10's and 4 5x7's, so far. This is the first one I did and probably my favorite.

Morning Glow, New Contemporary Landscape Painting by Sheri Jones

Morning Glow
28x22 oil on canvas

The inspiration is from a small creek bed I drive by every day. On this particular morning the fog was heavy and the new sun was warm. I thought it made an interesting combination. This is available for purchase.

Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
Color variation and texture make this contemporary landscape painting interesting.  I mixed and mixed the oils as I moved across the canvas.  When looking at this painting, sometimes I see patches of flowers, and sometimes I see water.  This painting is dry, and ready for a new home.  Framing is optional because the sides of the painting are painted.  Contact Kay for purchasing info.  Thanks for looking at this blog...Kay

I created this in the studio from an experience of plein air painting north of Crested Butte.

Daily Painting, Oil, Animal, Sheep, 8x10

My friend, Donna Vines, took a trip to Northern England earlier this year.  She was kind enough to share her photos with me.  I have painted several of them and I could not resist this small lamb walking the moor.

Purchase here
I painted with palette knife and brush and tried to get lots of texture in it.  I liked the rugged  feel.  I have never been on the moors, but I think they would feel rugged and cold and windy.

I painted a ram a few months ago, which I like to think is this lamb's daddy.  You can view it here

Have a wonderful week!

Provence Art Trek with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams, Day 2

Day 3, Provence Art Trek: Les Baux / Chateauneuf
Plein Air Painting and Photography Workshop
with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams
7" x 5" textured oil painting

On the second day of our Provence Art Trek, we visited the picturesque town of Les Baux, perched atop its rocky outcropping with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside below. Some folks visited the castle, galleries and shops while the painters set up in this quiet plaza capturing the unique stone residences, medieval cathedral or picturesque courtyard.

In the afternoon we went to one of the most renowned wine towns in the world and sampled some amazing Chateaunef du Pape wines.

Next summer we will be leading an Art Trek to Spain and the following year we will be headed to Tuscany, England and Ireland, so if you've always dreamed of painting, photographing and sightseeing in Europe, please join us for one of these amazing trip! Details will be coming soon on

Please check out my website at, to see more of my contemporary impressionist oil paintings.

While driving to the post office, I passed this charming garden spot.  The blooming bougainvillea and garden umbrella in contrasting color, caught my eye.

I so enjoy doing these small paintings.  I have little desire to do larger ones these days.  This give me instant gratification and tomorrow, I have the thrill of starting over on a new project.

A few weeks ago, the talented Diana Marshall, from Dublin, Ireland, had a painting give-away.  She offered to do a portrait of choice for the winner, who happened to be ME!

Today I received this great painting of my grandson showing off his prize fish!  Thank you Diana, this will go directly to my grandson Kevin.

Be sure to check out Diana's blog.  Her paintings are great and her  animal portraits are fantastic, especially the cats.

"Pink Peonies" by Ann McCann 9 X 12 Oil

I saw some pink peonies at the grocery store and had to buy them.  They don't grow well here in North Texas.  Then I had to paint them and fast.  They only lasted for a weekend, but now I can always remember them.

Original Art Atlanta

purple flowers painting
©1990-2014  Blue Flower Painting by Jill Saur, all rights reserved
This is my new 12"x12" acrylic palette knife painting on canvas.  It's titled, "Blue Flowers".

When I work with my palette knife, I use an impasto style that I developed for myself over fifteen years ago.  The richly textured paint seemingly brings my trees and flowers to life.
My patrons tell me they feel like they can walk into one of my landscapes or reach out and pluck a petal from one of my flower paintings.  That makes me smile!

I invite you to become a collector and experience the joy of owning original art that inspires and uplifts your soul! - Jill Saur
