Lost by Kay Wyne

Lost
16" x 12" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
Floral Landscape Series
When I look at this painting, I get lost...my eyes see a field, then puddles of water fading back into the horizon.  There is texture on the surface of the canvas where the paint is built up.  The colors that I mixed up are soft and earthy.  This painting is ready to hang...contact Kay for purchasing info.  Thanks, KMW

Field of Color by Kay Wyne

Field of Color
30" x 30" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
Floral Landscape
Field of Color is now drying at the studio...the thick layers of paint will take some time to dry.  My focus on painting this landscape was achieving harmonious colors that work well together, and please the eye.  Here is a close-up---you can see the thick application of paint and the texture.  I used a palette knife all the way.  I was in the studio mixing and mixing piles of paint, getting the colors all to relate to each other.

Contact ME for purchasing information.  Thanks for looking at the art posted on this blog. Have an artful day....Kay Wyne  p.s.  Happy Birthday to my Dad, Charlie Miller...he is the best!  He is 87 years young.

Flamboyant Feathers by Kay Wyne

Flamboyant Feathers
10" x 10" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Rooster Series
I just pulled this colorful guy off the easel, and he is drying in the studio.  This rooster was so much fun to paint, with almost every color on my palette on the canvas...I kept the lines disjointed, loose, all with different size brushes.  I started with a dark background (my new thing) which makes the foreground pop.  Flamboyant Feathers is for sale....contact ME for more info on this guy.  Framing is optional...he looks good as is, and ready for a new home.  Thanks for looking, Kay  p.s.  there might be a little glare on the right side of this photo...I may need to retake.

Afternoon Delight by Kay Wyne

Afternoon Delight
12" x 12" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
Yesterday was the Artists' Reception at Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas, Texas for the "It's A Small World" exhibit.  There was a great turn-out, and this painting, "Afternoon Delight" took third place in the jurying.  (A total surprise for me, since I haven't won anything in a long time!!!)  Judges were Steve Hahn and Ellie Taylor, both fabulous artists.  Here is a pic of gallery owner Pam Massar, Ellie, Steve and I with my framed painting.
It was so much fun to meet some new collectors and artists throughout the afternoon.  It was especially fun to have friend Gwen Bell take second place and studio partner Sharon Hodges take first place in the judging.
Sharon Hodges taking home a blue ribbon!
That cheeseburger was fabulous!!!
Pam Massar, Steve Hahn, Gwen Bell with her fabulous painting "Dog Days", and Ellie Taylor.  If you missed the opening reception, please stop by the gallery to see all of the small paintings in the show...they are wonderful.  To top off my afternoon, three of my rooster paintings sold...they flew the coop and now have a new home.  A big thank you to Pam and her staff!  Thanks for looking at this blog...send any comments or questions my way.  Kay

Windy December by Kay Wyne

Windy December
8" x 10" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Landscape Plein Air
As I post this today the wind is howling and makes me feel as I did the day I painted this small painting.  It was a cold and windy day at White Rock Lake.  As you can imagine, it was hard keeping all of my painting equipment together.  I started with a brush, but ended up painting with a palette knife.  I was painting with a Monday morning plein air group.  Outdoor situations make you paint fast and deliberate.  I probably need to get out of the studio and paint outdoors more in 2015.  This painting is for sale....contact Kay if you have comments or questions.  Thanks for looking....Kay

Empty Nest Waiting by Kay Wyne

Empty Nest Waiting
8" x 16" Oil on Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
Empty Nest Waiting is framed up and hanging at Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas, Texas.  I used a wide brush and my palette knife to create this contemporary nest painting. You can see the wide brushstrokes in the background...I didn't get fussy with it.  I painted it, and left the paint so that the brush strokes were visible.  The sticks and twigs of the nest are thick and textured.  Thanks for looking at this blog.....Kay

Flutter by Kay Wyne

Flutter
24" x 24" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
This contemporary palette knife painting was inspired by a red dragonfly photo taken by Mark Malone last summer.  I believe he had the dragonflies in his garden.

I liked the clean, crisp colors.....no mud.  Cad orange, cad green, magenta, sky blue, and white were all out on my palette for this painting.  I was very careful not mix colors too much because you really can't recover for muddy colors once they are on the canvas.  A little bit abstract with the hard edges and large shapes. Contemporary, abstract, colorful and textural are characteristics of this painting.

Contact Kay for more information on this painting.  No frame required with the gallery wrap canvas....ready to hang!  Thanks, Kay

Just Because by Kay Wyne

Just Because
36" x 36" Oil on Heavy Duty Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
My inspiration for the contemporary palette knife painting
was a beautiful floral arrangement that
son in-law Wes gave daughter Lindsay.
This canvas has lots of texture because the paint was
applied with a palette knife.  If you are interested in
this painting, contact Pam Massar or Kay Wyne.
Thanks for viewing!

Lazy Afternoon by Kay Wyne

Lazy Afternoon
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
18" x 18" Oil on Canvas
I got my palette knives out yesterday and worked on the landscape with the two cattle.  I would of put some tall grass in the foreground, but the canvas is way too wet with thick paint.  I had to use a very small knife for the the cows to get the small shapes in.  Thanks for looking at my art....email me if you are interested in purchasing.  This is Day 24 of the 30 Paintings in 30 Days.  Thanks....KMW
