Gimme Some Sugar by Roxanne Steed
6"x6" oil on archival panel
"Joy is the feeling of grinning on the inside."
- Dr. Melba Colgrove
"Gimme Some Sugar" is the name of this little painting. My southern granny would say this to us as we'd be loading up the car to go home. We couldn't leave without a good-bye kiss. We'd try to stifle a giggle, try not to roll our eyes. Now, my grannies are long gone and I think of that saying every time I see a sugar bowl, like my little blue & white one. Hope the thought makes you smile and think of your Granny, too!

New Water Lilies Oil Painting & Canvas Prints by Niki Gulley
"Transcending Radiance" ©2011 Niki Gulley
Three 48" x 30" canvases to form a 48" x 90" triptych oil painting
I decided it would be a fun challenge to create an extremely large painting this winter, and I wanted the final piece to be very uplifting, colorful and full of energy. Opting for warm colors and working with extremely thick oil paint and palette knives, I chose this water scene for its energetic flow and yet calming serenity at the same time, and positioned the water lilies and my paint strokes in a circular pattern to enliven that mood.
And, I've just released a limited edition stretched canvas print of
"Transcending Radiance" in two sizes:
18" x 30" for $295
26" x 40" for $595
With only 100 signed and numbered prints in the series, these canvases are sure to go quickly so e-mail me at Niki Gulley if you are interested in purchasing.

Niki Gulley’s passion for painting began in grade school when she had to draw something as mundane as shoes for art class, and loved every minute of it. Her parents enrolled her in private lessons and she was hooked. Following her childhood in Chicago, Niki relocated to Dallas to pursue an art major at SMU. Since she disliked the freezing Illinois winters, Dallas seemed like the place to stay after graduating.
Next, Gulley entered the world of advertising, working as art director for a local magazine. After a few years passed, Niki felt like something was missing. So she started painting again every free moment. This is what she had been missing and she began to feel fulfilled again.
It is from this feeling of true joy that Niki translates onto canvas. She seeks to capture the beauty of our landscape, utilizing vivid colors in oil paint and pastels to convey a particular mood. Gulley invites you to reconnect with nature and escape day-to-day responsibilities along with her in these creations.

Cafe Parking by Arlon Rosenoff
Cafe Parking 40" x 48" Palette Knife Oil on Cradled Panel
I paint primarily with a palette knife because it gives me the opportunity to interact with paint in a very tactile, expressionistic way.
Each viewer of my art is able to gain a strong sense my physical interaction with the paint, with every stroke and manipulation visible forever. The surfaces of my paintings are very telling, sometimes resembling a mosaic of palette knife strokes.
Being blessed with an unusual first name allows me to sign my work with my given name.

BECKY JOY desert oil landscape
5x7 oil on canvas panel Sky #51 $150.
I went up to Prescott yesterday to give a demo at Mountain Artists Guild. I thought I was totally prepared, but I forgot my tripod. I was trying to pack as light as possible thinking they would have an easel for me to use, but no. So, I managed to paint on a 16x20 canvas for the demo. My position for painting was a little difficult, so I certainly wouldn't consider it one of my best demos. But I think everyone got something out of it, so that is good.
I painted this one today in the studio from an old photo. The field was a variety of warm colors with the late afternoon sun. The light was hitting the trees and the tops of the fence posts. A really nice scene.
We poured concrete this week for an addition to the house and then driving to Prescott yesterday, I'm pretty tired now and not doing much of anything. Hopefully, Mon I'll be back in the swing of things.
I'll talk to you all tomorrow.

Horsing Around 1 Abstract Horse Painting by Texas Equine Artist Laurie
Horsing Around 1
5 x 7 inches Oil on Watercolor Paper
Spring In Your Step by Roxanne Steed
"Spring is a heart full of hope and a shoe full of rain."
-author unknown
I got my first shoe-full of rain today, leaving the gym. It was monsoon-like weather, except colder, but to me it did feel like Spring is trying its hardest to show up for me. Lots of melt-off happening, fast-running water every where! Maybe just the thought of it has put a spring in my step? Sometimes it doesn't take much....a small cheery bouquet, a bit of hope, the promise of turning that corner at some point.

Quiet Talk, Angel Palette Knife Oil Painting by Judy Mackey
"Quiet Talk"
10" x 10", Oil on Board
I was looking at my recent inventory of paintings and was thinking, "I sure have painted a few angel paintings lately". I have been posting them on Facebook and it has been a pleasant surprise to receive comments and thumbs up on the paintings. I think Facebook has it's place in seeing what is getting people's attention and what hasn't.
Yesterday I met Isabelle Gautier, a Georgia Artist who blogs on the Daily Painters of Georgia site. We'd only "met" virtually through emails so it was nice to put a face to a name. We visited a few Galleries and then had lunch at a French restaurant. Isabelle is from the Normandy area of France so it was nice going to a French restaurant, ordering wine for lunch. We talked about our art, ideas on galleries, what venues work for selling art, etc. It was nice brainstorming and making a new friend.

Sundance To Spring by Roxanne Steed
12"x12" oil on archival board
"It's spring fever. That is what the name of it is. And when you've got it, you want - oh, you don't quite know what is is you DO want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!" - Mark Twain
This quote made me laugh. Is it the wishing for Spring that makes me so restless? I've been on a de-cluttering kick the last several days. I wonder if that is just part of wanting the 'newness' of Spring to be here, or if it's just good to "clear the house - clear the head" kind of thing. Which I think works, as I finished the painting I started the day before!
"Sundance To Spring" is a 12"x12" oil on archival board. Contact me at this link for more information about this painting, or to purchase.
Looks like March is going to come in "like a lion". They're calling for wind gusts of 50mph, with rain and there's likely to be lots of snow melt-off. Crossing my fingers that there's no flooding around here!
Dailypaintworks challenge painting by Becky Joy
For the Campfire 6x6 oil on canvas panel
$75. buy now ebay click here.
This was certainly a challenge for me. I don't own any small brushes for detail. It was a lot of negative painting to get some smaller edges. I remember now why I don't want to paint detail. Not a lot of fun for me, but the challenge was good for me. It has been a long time since I have done a still life and even longer since I have used ultramarine, burnt sienna and white for a limited palette. I had to dig up an old tube of burnt sienna for this. I haven't had that in the palette for a long time either. About time I used most of it up anyway. This has been the challenge on the dailypaintworks. I thought I would do a few challenges to get more work out there more and to challenge myself with things that I don't usually paint.
Anyway, check out the site.
I'm still working on the website. So, I guess for right now this is where my work will be.
I have a workshop in Pasadena, CA for June and a one day plein air in AZ. Check out my workshops at http://beckyjoy.com/workshops. There are still some openings.

I do so many comissions of children and I was at a photoshoot for portraits and shot this shot. New Aspen Painting and Canvas Prints by Niki Gulley
"Vertical Aspirations" ©2011 Niki Gulley
oil on canvas • 48" x 36"
In "Vertical Aspirations" I wanted you to feel that child-like wonder of staring up in into the treetops and the heavens above. Choosing vibrant, cheerful yellows contrasted against a crystal blue sky and arranging the aspens in a circular pattern heightened by thick, curving paint strokes, both add to that joyful, playful feeling of hope and discovery.
If you'd like to see this aspen tree painting in person, stop by my booth at "Art in the Square" in Frisco, Texas next weekend (March 5-6). See friscosquare.com/AITS for more details.

Sunny Escape - Lemons & Blue Glass by Roxanne Steed
6"x6" oil on gessoed masonite archival artboard
"The day the Lord created hope was probably the same day he created Spring."
-Bern Williams
It's good to be back in the studio again! As I was arranging this bowl of lemons, one seemed to be trying to make it's escape (off to the right), so he wouldn't get sliced up like the ones on the left! But the most wonderful thing about posing your models (these lemons) in a strong light, is looking for the wonderful color reflections and the colors in the cast shadows. It's the thing I've really been pursuing in these recent still life set ups! And yes, each painting always makes me look forward to 'the next one'!

"Villa View," Tuscany Painting Workshop with Niki Gulley
“Villa View,” Tuscany ©2011 Niki Gulley
Oil on canvas • 8” x 24”
When we teach our workshop in Tuscany, the villa and its views are so beautiful that I just had to paint it. The quintessential stone farmhouse is surrounded by these unobstructed amazing 360 degree views of the surrounding valleys and hill towns. I decided to go with a panorama format because it seemed the only way to communicate the expansive landscape around the property, and even that doesn’t begin to do it justice. I chose to work with extremely thick oil paint and palette knives since you don’t see Tuscany painted that way very often and it’s so much fun to play with all of that paint.
Another view from the villa by one of my students. Very talented!

Full Swing Spring by Roxanne Steed
12"x16" oil on linen mounted on museum quality board
"No matter how long the winter, how hard the frost or how deep the snow, nature triumphs. No season is awaited so eagerly or welcomed so warmly as spring."
-Sheila Pickles
I do hope you've missed me over the last few days! I've been in San Diego with my husband (he's here on business travel). When we were packing for this trip rain had been forecast for both days we planned on being here, so I didn't pack the paint gear this time. But I had the most wonderful opportunity to meet up with some dear friends that were a big part of my life when I lived here ten years ago! It was SOOO much fun to catch up - a lot goes on in ten years time...but funny thing, I think only our children have aged! My friends looked GREAT as ever! Those years seemed to fall away pretty quickly & it was like I had only been gone a short time. Thanks Anne & Wendy!!
Before we left CT on Tuesday, I had just finished painting, "Full Swing Spring", a 12"x16" oil on linen mounted on museum quality board. The days are getting a little longer there finally, and we've had a couple of surprisingly warm days (for late winter anyway). I'm looking forward to a 'full swing Spring' and was just thinking how a visit with dear friends is just like a sunny day in Spring! Keeps you smiling - that's for certain!

Last Dance Delphiniums is the newest painting in Flower Mound Studio, and is a nice big three part painting on gallery wrap canvas. You can see more details of this large new work on my art blog. My favorite flower at the Dallas Arboretum is the delphinium. These lovely tall violet and blue flowers do so well at the Arboretum, and I've found my favorite place to paint next to a huge bed of them next to the bridge. I'm useless at growing these, so I have to go to the Arboretum to see them every year. I hope you will join me there in just a few weeks, for the Dallas Arboretum Artscape celebration March 18-20. I'll be in booth 54, in my new light dome tent. We're expanding to three days this year, so I'll be open bright and early each day, Friday through Sunday, from 9 am to 5 pm. Come early! I almost always sell out so I don't want you to miss a thing!

"Fresh Yellows" A New Palette Knife Painting by David Edwards
acrylic palette knife painting on wrapped canvas
8x10 inches
by David Edwards
I was born in Essex, England in 1944 and emigrated to Canada in 1957, residing first in Toronto and moving to Calgary in 1960. Now residing in Kelowna, British Columbia. Early influences on my style and career included J M W Turner and John Constable.
Later, the work of the late French minimalist Nicolas De Stael played the most significant role in my development as a painter. My landscape paintings are abstracted to simple forms relying on texture and tonal variations to create drama.
My still-life and flower works are painted with a palette knife and sometimes brush in acrylic either on canvass or panels. I build the shapes of the abstracted flowers, not being at all concerned with the type of flower, by layering subtle changes in tone and colour value, creating my own style of still-life. Most of my landscapes are painted with a brush although occasionally a palette knife may be used for effect.
My paintings hang in corporate and private collections across the world. I've had a number of solo and group exhibitions in Canada and the USA.
I'm a member of Landscape Artists International and the International Society of Acrylic Painters.

I painted this from the Dailypaintworks.com/challenges. I haven't painted any still lifes in probably about a year. I have been thinking I needed to do some and then saw this challenge. I thought it was a good way to get me back to those flowers and set ups. I was also going to post this on the challenge, but for some reason I haven't been able to get onto the website to do so. So, for now, this is as far as I have gotten.
I had some 4x8 boards made for me. I like the format and have some other things in mind to paint on them. So, off to painting some more.

Foot Traffic Only by Arlon Rosenoff
New painting this evening from a scene near Pioneer Square in downtown Seattle.
Foot Traffic Only - 30" x 40" Palette Knife Oil on Cradled Panel
I paint primarily with a palette knife because it gives me the opportunity to interact with paint in a very tactile, expressionistic way.
Each viewer of my art is able to gain a strong sense my physical interaction with the paint, with every stroke and manipulation visible forever. The surfaces of my paintings are very telling, sometimes resembling a mosaic of palette knife strokes.
Being blessed with an unusual first name allows me to sign my work with my given name.

Barn Owl Portrait ...Palette Knife Painting by Peg Whitacre
Owls have always held a strange fascination for me and many other people. Those big eyes that seem to look straight through us are beautiful and the ability to turn their heads seemingly clear around makes my neck hurt. Since they are nocturnal creatures photographing them is nigh unto impossible so I have made very good use of wildlife refuges that specialize in treating and releasing injured birds and mamals if they are able to resume living on their own. This painting is a 6x6 inch palette knife painting with the exception of those wonderful eyes and a few final touches with a brush. The painting is available directly from the artist at pwhi!tacre@att.net or 865-932-6729. Enjoy
Careers in music, education and photography led me into the world of oil painting, which is a "daily" challenge to me.
Sunset oil daily impressionist painting by BECKY JOY
12x24 oil on linen panel, on hold
18x24 oil on linen panel, on hold
Even though I have not posted any skies lately that does not mean that I haven't painted any. I have been toiling away in the studio painting larger paintings, skies.
These are two that I have just finished. I repainted one of them, because I wasn't pleased with it. So, I kept my nose to the grindstone until I got what I wanted. Both of these paintings are on hold until I hear if they were selected to a show. I've been pretty lucky so far. I'll have to wait and see if the luck holds.
I'm also getting the framing and shipping supplies together for 7 paintings that are headed for shows in different directions. Its amazing how much time is devoted to work besides painting.
Anyway, I have some ideas for some smaller paintings and hope to start back to work with them tomorrow.
So, talk to ya'all tomorrow.

"Whilst in Lismore, Ireland", by Karla Nolan, palette knife, brush, oil painting
Sometimes titling artwork can actually be fun, rather than frustrating or tedious. Our family travelled some time ago to Ireland, a most delightful country, and we visited Lismore briefly. I could not resist this title and hope you, too, enjoy the small bit of whimsy from a Yankee who really never uses the word "whilst"!
"Whilst in Lismore, Ireland" 12"x16" palette knife and brush oil painting on gessoed board, $215, unframed, s/h to be determined at time of sale. Write me at KarlaNolan@gmail.com for more information or to buy through Paypal invoice. Thanks for looking!
I have set up a second website, Paintings On Glass, to showcase my paintings on glass. There is a piece in progress as I type with sailboats. That's a true challenge, showing proper structure and making the water look good. Be sure to check it out, along with my new blogspot, listed below.
Look below for a link to yet another art blogspot, one that I created for my paintings on glass, or click here: PaintingOntoGlass

"Life is an onion and one peels it crying."--French proverb
Escapism. Defying time. Serenity and solace. Reliving treasured moments...the reasons I paint and make artwork. The creative acts are surely the most pleasant and yet difficult of all. Color and form are special friends. The challenge of perfecting artwork is monumental and exhilarating. This effort has grown to be both friend and family, which are the two most important aspects of my life. Judaica is my most challenging art...Hebrew and I don't always get along!
I'm mainly self-taught in art, relying on intuition, experimentation, benefiting from studying books, visiting museums, galleries and learning painting techniques from other artist friends/relatives. I've studied pastels with Clive Tyler, taken oils with Daniel Edmondson. My newest medium is painting on glass, inspired by an Italian master, bringing this art technique home and applying my own topics. My oils are mainly with palette knife.
This art style might be called "abstract realism", an oxymoron in its own right. Favorite contemporary artists include Cruciani, L Horowitz, Berberian, S Stork, C Tyler, D Edmondson.

"Under the snowdrifts the blossoms are sleeping,
Dreaming their dreams of sunshine and June."
-William Sharp
There's something wonderful and warm on a gray winter day when the sun starts to break through the gloom and shine through the windows, illuminating things with a warm touch here and there. It's such a happy surprise of a moment that always brings a smile. "Late Winter Morning Light" is a 10"x8" oil on Belgian linen mounted on archival panel. is an award winning artist who paints exclusively with a palette knife. She holds a fine art degree and has worked as a professional graphic designer for many years. She began painting in oil again after taking a palette knife workshop through the Copley Society of Art in Boston and was immediately hooked. The thick, painterly, yet highly detailed strokes of color are trademarks of her style.
