Abstract Daily Painting, 8x8" "INDECISION", SOLD
Every once in a while I have to try something abstract. This one is all about texture and the red under painting.
I mixed sand from the beach into the gesso.
It's always fun to experiment, especially when I start to take my painting a little too seriously.

Balboa Island Resident, Boat Pulled Up On The Sand Oil by Janet Bludau

Balboa Island in California has many such rowboats and sailboats and paddle boards pulled up on the sand just waiting for their next trip out.

I can't remember a time that I didn't have an artistic pursuit but I found my true love with painting. Although I enjoy exploring with different techniques and materials, I primarily work in oils with an abstract style. Thick paint placed with a palette knife and strong geometric shapes are often found in my paintings.
After earning a degree in Business Admin/Marketing, I went on to several "Big Girl" corporate jobs and then owned and ran a design business in Hawaii, importing antiques from the mainland. My education was rounded out through the UC Berkeley Extension Art Program and the College of Marin Art and Design Program. I am fortunate to have had wonderful instructors as well as the insightful critiques of my fun, fellow painters.

have a dear friend who lives in Middletown, Rhode Island, right next to
Newport. She is so fortunate to have a house right around the corner
from this particular beach, "Second Beach". Am I envious? You bet I
am! Every day she can go to the beach and listen to the pounding surf,
view the changing skies, the ebb and flow of the waters. There are
fewer experiences more soothing than the sound and feel of the ocean. I
think I'm due for another visit!

Escapism. Defying time. Serenity and solace. Reliving treasured moments...the reasons I paint and make artwork. The creative acts are surely the most pleasant and yet difficult of all. Color and form are special friends. The challenge of perfecting artwork is monumental and exhilarating. This effort has grown to be both friend and family, which are the two most important aspects of my life. Judaica is my most challenging art...Hebrew and I don't always get along!
I'm mainly self-taught in art, relying on intuition, experimentation, benefiting from studying books, visiting museums, galleries and learning painting techniques from other artist friends/relatives. I've studied pastels with Clive Tyler, taken oils with Daniel Edmondson. My newest medium is painting on glass, inspired by an Italian master, bringing this art technique home and applying my own topics. My oils are mainly with palette knife.
This art style might be called "abstract realism", an oxymoron in its own right. Favorite contemporary artists include Cruciani, L Horowitz, Berberian, S Stork, C Tyler, D Edmondson.
