1487 East of Dynamite Point Plein Air Alla Prima
I did this yesterday at the Fort Pierce Inlet State park. It was a beautiful windy day, about 11 am those clouds in the back were overhead and the wind got very strong. The water was that color of blue, aqua turquoise, beautiful. I got rid of all the condos across the inlet. $300.

Playing with Paint by Pamela Blaies
10" x 8"
oil
Today I had some fun with paint! I did four small studies with lemons, working loose and fast. I experimented with some different colors today. This painting looks a little different than a lot of my recent work because I substituted Pthalo Blue for Ultramarine Blue and used cool-ish colors for the background. I love this blue! It gives the painting a fresh feeling, full of light. Below is a photo of the toned canvas at the block-in phase. Tomorrow I might try something like this again, but tone it orange instead of neutral.....
I love to share my art and inspiration. Click HERE to sign up for my email newsletter and receive a free gift of postcards.
Plein Air Painting in Venice with Niki Gulley
We just got back from teaching our latest Painting and Photography Art Trek in Venice during Carnivalé and had the most amazing time! The weather was ideal our first day there, and we found our way to this quiet landing to paint a typical Venetian canal. I liked the way the sunlight reflected across the water's surface, and I really wanted to capture a gondola in that lit space, but since they move so quickly that was no easy task! Luckily around 11am, there was a steady stream of gondolas passing by our location. I found myself painting as quickly as I could while one came into my composition, and if I didn't capture it in time, fortunately another vessel would come into view shortly afterwards, and I was really pleased with the results.
If you'd like to join us on one of our upcoming Art Treks, please let me know. The final registration deadline of March 1st for our Tuscany and Cinque Terre/Lake Como, Italy workshops is quickly approaching!
Or, closer to home I'll be leading a Plein Air Painting Workshop sponsored through the Good Art Company gallery in Fredericksburg, TX, April 5-7, during Texas wildflower season.

Niki Gulley’s passion for painting began in grade school when she had to draw something as mundane as shoes for art class, and loved every minute of it. Her parents enrolled her in private lessons and she was hooked. Following her childhood in Chicago, Niki relocated to Dallas to pursue an art major at SMU. Since she disliked the freezing Illinois winters, Dallas seemed like the place to stay after graduating.
Next, Gulley entered the world of advertising, working as art director for a local magazine. After a few years passed, Niki felt like something was missing. So she started painting again every free moment. This is what she had been missing and she began to feel fulfilled again.
It is from this feeling of true joy that Niki translates onto canvas. She seeks to capture the beauty of our landscape, utilizing vivid colors in oil paint and pastels to convey a particular mood. Gulley invites you to reconnect with nature and escape day-to-day responsibilities along with her in these creations.

Indiana Pink Tulips 13036, Dreama Workshop, Carmel, Indiana by Texas Artist Nancy Standlee
Indiana Pink Tulips 13036
12x12" in Ampersand Gessobord Oil
For Sale on the online gallery HERE
I've flown back into DFW today from a Dreama Tolle Perry oil workshop at the Renaissance Gallery
in Carmel Indiana and the pink tulips were painted on Friday, February
22, the first day of the workshop. A question one of my friends asked
before I left, "Why Carmel? It's cold there?" Well, I guess it was an
oversight on my part because I signed up during a hot Texas August and
IF you've ever tried to get into one of Dreama's workshops you know it's
just not that easy as they fill up quickly. There was an opening posted
so I took it. It was a great workshop but the Midwest storm followed me
there making for a little flight turbulence along the way and I got up
Friday morning with about of 1/2" thick ice on my rental car windshield.
Fortunately a scraper was included but cold, oh, my. I gingerly drove
to the Indiana Art and Design district and the class was held in
Kathleen Stevens previously owned Renaissance Fine Art Gallery. Kathleen had a great spot saved for me. There were 19 in the class.
Dreama's
teaching style is geared for student success. I've taken many workshops
and her method is a super way for students to learn how she uses the
transparent oil colors. Dreama will talk and demo in broken segments of
study and it gives us plenty of time to go back to our easels and paint,
then regroup for the next session. She continues breaking down this
process into easy to grasp portions until by the end of the day each of
the 19 students had a very nice painting.
See some of the group shots below. To see the rest of the paintings go to my blog.

"Art and music are to my soul, as food and water are to my body. I believe that they are two of God's most precious gifts to His children. As the author and giver of creativity, through these gifts, He has given us a portion of Himself. He created the very first canvas, magnificently painted it, and brought it to life" I am a full time artist, dividing my time between painting and teaching in my Colorado studio. Having painted on most every surface imaginable, at this time I work primarily on canvas, board, and paper. Though my style remains quite diverse, I believe I have the heart of an Abstract Expressionist, or even more accurately, an Action Expressionist, as I am most definitely an "action painter". Each painting is a journey , dictated by primarily by my current thoughts and emotions, be they happy, sad, peaceful or frenzied. It is a mysterious relationship, and is thrilling when the painting finally reveals itself, and our private journey becomes a story to share.

Romantic Reflections by Pamela Blaies
9" x 12"
oil on linen
I'm a little late sharing this one, but my sweetie gave me a dozen beautiful red roses for Valentine's Day. He knows how much I love flowers. I painted three of them scattered on a silver platter, which was a wedding present over 15 years ago. I see lots of symbolism in this painting. Even the reflections of the freshly cut, romantic roses in the slightly tarnished silver platter seem to say things to me.

I can't remember a time that I didn't have an artistic pursuit but I found my true love with painting. Although I enjoy exploring with different techniques and materials, I primarily work in oils with an abstract style. Thick paint placed with a palette knife and strong geometric shapes are often found in my paintings.
After earning a degree in Business Admin/Marketing, I went on to several "Big Girl" corporate jobs and then owned and ran a design business in Hawaii, importing antiques from the mainland. My education was rounded out through the UC Berkeley Extension Art Program and the College of Marin Art and Design Program. I am fortunate to have had wonderful instructors as well as the insightful critiques of my fun, fellow painters.

Karen is an intuitive artist with an innate connection to the universe. Turning mediative visions into mesmerizing paintings.
Using only a palette knife and bold colors Karen’s painting are intended to draw you in and caressing you like a lover. Sensual and tantalizing, whimsical and teasing, with curves that ebb and flow. Her pieces have been described as cosmic, relaxing yet full of energy, intuitive, erotic, fantasy, peaceful, organic and come from deep within her. You can feel her interconnectedness to the universe, she captivates you with her use of emotion, color and swirling tendrils that are a big part of her and her artwork.
Karen’s goal is for the viewer to find their own unique interpretation in her paintings. To let the imagination run free for a while and connect with their inner most feelings.

I've been exercising my landscape brushes lately, and the new collection of paintings would not be complete without at least one new bluebonnet, don't you agree? Blue Jean Bluebonnets reminded me so much of one of my favorite pairs of extra soft, extra worn jeans from my teen years, back when pale blue denim was in style and super wide bell bottoms. I've had lots of trips down memory lane lately, staying with mom and helping go through paperwork, favorite books and records, as well as a few terrifying photos of myself with big hair and glitter blue eyeshadow from the 1980s which you'll notice I'm not including here. Also in the mix was a great deal of birdwatching, and the little feeder attached to mom's kitchen window attracted more than just birds. AnnieBee got up close and personal with a squirrel, as you can see on my art blog today! Take a peek and let me know what you think was going through her head....

I painted these sunflowers with extremely thick paint and palette knife. The resulting canvas is loaded with texture, color and energy! I've painted it on 1 and 1/2 inch deep stretcher bars, with the image continuing around the edges so that it can be hung as is frameless for a contemporary look.
This sunflower scene looks great hung alone to brighten up a little spot, or in a grouping with some of my sunflower or floral scenes.
