Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Seascape with Sunset, 6x8" Oil
Another in my long fascination with oceans and, or, sunrise/sunset paintings. I am not sure why I am so attracted to them, but I am!
I always enjoy playing with thick paint! I have been accused of being that person who "plays with her food". Wrong!
For whatever reason, the process and the results please me....and that is my goal.

Bluebonnet Palette Knife Painting by Niki Gulley - Just Sold!
"Spring Forth IV" ©2015 Niki Gulley
SOLD • 24" x 12" textured mixed media on wrap around canvas
Just sold through the goodartcompany.com/gac/. In this painting, I wanted to capture the rhythm, color, and density of our bluebonnets and vibrant wildflowers flowing along the grassy rises and falls of the berms in the Texas Hill Country. Making sure not to over blend my thick strokes so that you could see the marks and feel the energy found in nature, Spring Forth is loaded with texture, color and movement. Dramatic clouds swoop down and lead your eye to the rolling fileds of distant wildflowers, while life-size foreground bluebonnets burst with dimension and grab your attention. Arranging the bluebonnets and distant clouds vertically are designed to lift your spirits and add joy to your home.

Niki Gulley’s passion for painting began in grade school when she had to draw something as mundane as shoes for art class, and loved every minute of it. Her parents enrolled her in private lessons and she was hooked. Following her childhood in Chicago, Niki relocated to Dallas to pursue an art major at SMU. Since she disliked the freezing Illinois winters, Dallas seemed like the place to stay after graduating.
Next, Gulley entered the world of advertising, working as art director for a local magazine. After a few years passed, Niki felt like something was missing. So she started painting again every free moment. This is what she had been missing and she began to feel fulfilled again.
It is from this feeling of true joy that Niki translates onto canvas. She seeks to capture the beauty of our landscape, utilizing vivid colors in oil paint and pastels to convey a particular mood. Gulley invites you to reconnect with nature and escape day-to-day responsibilities along with her in these creations.

is an award winning artist who paints exclusively with a palette knife. She holds a fine art degree and has worked as a professional graphic designer for many years. She began painting in oil again after taking a palette knife workshop through the Copley Society of Art in Boston and was immediately hooked. The thick, painterly, yet highly detailed strokes of color are trademarks of her style.
"Abstract Autumn Bowl" by Lynda Cookson
SOLD! The magic word for artists.
A contemporary abstract painting I did a couple of years ago when I was full of ambitious energy has just sold to a favourite returning customer of mine in the States. It's called "Abstract Autumn Bowl" and was created during an Easter weekend of video making. Alan and I hired the most economical camera we could find and spent the whole weekend filming demonstration paintings, with the aim of using them to promote sales online. Most of those videos still await editing! The sale of this painting - for some inexplicable reason, one of my favourites - will prompt me to quickly edit and upload the video to YouTube methinks.
I genuinely feel sad when a favourite painting jets off to a new home and I spend as much time as I can looking deep into the painting like a mournful depressive, trying to imprint every palette knife stroke into my psyche forever, before slipping it into its packaging. Sad. Sad, weird artist. But I know that the real thing is so much better in colour, texture and life than the digital image of it and that I'll never again enjoy that same feeling I get when I look at it. As I said, sad.

"Poppy Field Near Trevi, Italy" by Karla Nolan, original watercolor and ink painting on paper
From the moon to the poppy fields again (my last blog was a lunar blog) -- we were near this field but above it when we first saw it, standing near a wall in Trevi, Italy. Visiting in May, the delightful red flowers were everywhere and we drove all around so I could get some reference photos. Luckily we were successful in navigating to this field, so here you go, some more poppies from me to you!
"Poppy Field Near Trevi, Italy", 5.5"x8.5" watercolor (unmatted), $85 which includes s/h in continental U.S., contact me at KarlaNolan@gmail.com for more information, Paypal accepted

"Life is an onion and one peels it crying."--French proverb
Escapism. Defying time. Serenity and solace. Reliving treasured moments...the reasons I paint and make artwork. The creative acts are surely the most pleasant and yet difficult of all. Color and form are special friends. The challenge of perfecting artwork is monumental and exhilarating. This effort has grown to be both friend and family, which are the two most important aspects of my life. Judaica is my most challenging art...Hebrew and I don't always get along!
I'm mainly self-taught in art, relying on intuition, experimentation, benefiting from studying books, visiting museums, galleries and learning painting techniques from other artist friends/relatives. I've studied pastels with Clive Tyler, taken oils with Daniel Edmondson. My newest medium is painting on glass, inspired by an Italian master, bringing this art technique home and applying my own topics. My oils are mainly with palette knife.
This art style might be called "abstract realism", an oxymoron in its own right. Favorite contemporary artists include Cruciani, L Horowitz, Berberian, S Stork, C Tyler, D Edmondson.
"Life is short, use color!"
Small Seascape Wave Painting, Daily Painting Small Oil Painting, 6x8" Oil
I had the urge to experiment with a seascape painting. In the past, I painted lots of seascapes, but have done nothing recently. I decided to zoom in on one wave and try painting.

This is an autumn scene in Dallas on White Rock Lake. The complementary blues and oranges really jump off the page. And yes, we really have a fall here with color change; it just comes really late in November.

Indian Paintbrush Palette Knife Painting by Niki Gulley - Just Sold!
"Spring Forth II," Texas Hill Country ©2015 Niki Gulley
SOLD • 24" x 24"" textured oil painting on gallery wrap canvas
Just sold through the goodartcompany.com/gac/. I wanted this Texas wildflower painting to be filled with color and joy! Using thick oil paint and palette knives, I arranged the bluebonnets and winecups diagnonally to create an energy and movement, keeping your eye traveling from blossom to blossom. Choosing a vivid gold background to add warmth and contrast to the scene, also illumintes the petals and grasses from behind causing them to glow. Hung alone or with Spring Forth II, these Texas wildflowers are sure to lift your spirits and brighten up your home.

Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Wildlife Painting, Bird Art, 6x8" Robin in Oil, SOLD
When I was a kid growing up in northern Ohio, I always anxiously awaited the return of robins, knowing winter was gone when they came. I wondered where they spent the winters....now I know....North Carolina!
Well, anyway, that is where this bird spent the winter and where my photographer friend, Ted Fuhrer snapped an image of him. Thanks for allowing me to use it, Ted.
I really like this in a chunky black frame!
Thanks for reading my blog today. I hope you see a robin in your tree.
