Swaying Palms, Abstract Palette Knife Landscapes and Seascapes by Janet Bludau
I can't remember a time that I didn't have an artistic pursuit but I found my true love with painting. Although I enjoy exploring with different techniques and materials, I primarily work in oils with an abstract style. Thick paint placed with a palette knife and strong geometric shapes are often found in my paintings.
After earning a degree in Business Admin/Marketing, I went on to several "Big Girl" corporate jobs and then owned and ran a design business in Hawaii, importing antiques from the mainland. My education was rounded out through the UC Berkeley Extension Art Program and the College of Marin Art and Design Program. I am fortunate to have had wonderful instructors as well as the insightful critiques of my fun, fellow painters.

It is a very popular vacation spot and also quite popular with locals
who cross the bridge to walk the island, take the ferry across to the peninsula or even
allow themselves to splurge on a Balboa Bar..........

We're gearing up for a big move! Our last move for awhile and we're heading to the beach in Southern California. In this painting I'm remembering the last time we lived there, 15 years or so ago, when our daughters were young.

It's spring break around here and I'm having a stay-cation this time around. Relaxing with my daughter, playing a little tennis and painting a lot! I love what I do so this is the perfect Spring break for me. I do miss the sand beneath my feet though so I painted this lovely memory :)

Percolating Purple Clouds - Janet Bludau

The sky consists of brush work with palette knived "light" peeking out the back side of the clouds. The lower ocean is all palette knife work using yummy hues of blues and greens with a hint of lavender.

Baldwin Beach, Maui - Janet Bludau
Have any of you ever been to Baldwin Beach? I can't remember if it is in Kahului, where the airport is on Maui or in Paia, the next town up. I do remember that it gets windy in the afternoons so its best to plan your visit early. The trees are also famous for their thorny roots so you best be donnin your
"slippas" (flip-flops, thongs, sandles, go-aheads) before going for a walk anywhere near them. They do provide wonderful shade though.
