Here's the painting that I did last Friday night for a reception at the Ritz Carlton in Orlando. I had planned on painting another version of Hosta & Roses, but once set up, I realized there was too much opportunity in the actual moment to miss out on. I've never painted a dimly lit interior. This was so fun and surprisingly straightforward. The canvas had already been toned with a light wash of sepia, so the value was knocked down already. My goal was to maintain looseness and steer clear from too much homing in on detail. I find it hard to do when figures are involved - which of course means that means practice is in order.
