Normally I can't stand a smudgy look; particularly with palette knife. But I let myself get into it with this one because it was pretty near dead anyway. I think I was able to eek out a fairly decent painting. What I remembered is that there can be many ways to make a painting vibrant with contrasting elements. Color: red/green; saturation: high/low; application: one direct stroke/multiple strokes; texture: flat/dimensional; value: dark/light; edge: hard/soft. I think the list could go on for a while, but you get the idea. Here I seem to have used color, application, value and edge contrasts - for whatever it's worth. It's a very unsaturated piece - at least for me. I mixed the dark from burnt sienna, hookers green, and sap green.
This is the last post until early next week because I'll be spending some time house sitting and won't be bringing my own computer along. I'll still be on email though. Ciao!
