"Chilly Spring Walk" by Lynda Cookson

It's just the right time of year for a "Chilly Spring Walk" in your local nature trail (if you're in the northern hemisphere like we are!). The days are really beautiful with ever-changing days of April showers, sunshine and nippy breezes, and light white clouds in the blue sky. All the little flowers are heralding the onset of Spring and I am having loads of fun picking little wild posies to dot around the house. Lawn Daisies are my favourites and I love how they pop up within hours of the lawn being mown.

Colors of Greece by Lisa Elley. 100% Palette Knife Oil Painting

Colors of Greece by Lisa Elley. 2012. 11 x 14. Oil on Canvas.

This painting was so much fun, particularly the stairs.

Perspective on these old European buildings is challenging,

as they are falling over with age, nothing is really straight.

The colors also lured me into painting this.

We are so used to seeing variations of blue from Greece,

who knew these bright orange & pinks were hiding away there too!

Colors of Genoa by Lisa Elley. 2012. 11 X 14. Oil on Canvas. 100% Palette Knife Painting.

Crumbling buildings with incredible colors and textures,

winding steps, ancient doorways steeped in history,

it all comes together so naturally in Italy.

This painting depicts a residential area in the city of Genoa,

Italy's largest Seaport, and a city renowned for its impressive landmarks,

art, music, gastronomy, architecture and history.

Miami by Lisa Elley. 2012. 9 X 12. Oil on Canvas. 100% Palette Knife Painting.

Who doesn't love the steamy vibrancy of Miami?

The reflections of the city lights through and around

the bridge drew me to paint this. That and a little local pride.

Forest Reflection by Lisa Elley. Palette Knife Oil Painting

Forest Reflection by Lisa Elley. 2012. 11 x 14. Oil on Canvas. 100% Palette Knife Painting.

I was inspired to paint this autumn forest lake, with the fall colors just everywhere, including the reflection in the water. I can never get enough of the colors of fall.

Derelict by Lisa Elley. 100% Palette Knife Oil Painting

Derelict by Lisa Elley. 2012. 16 X 20. Oil on Canvas. 100% Palette Knife

I was inspired to paint this incredible abandoned farmhouse in the Wairarapa region of New Zealand. It dates back to about the 1860's. The corrugated iron roof just screamed cadmium red medium, which I simply can't resist. The typically New Zealand overcast, yet glary sky had a little pocket where the sun shone through and lit up the grass with a gorgeous golden hue.

Barn Owl Portrait ...Palette Knife Painting by Peg Whitacre

Owls have always held a strange fascination for me and many other people.  Those big eyes that seem to look straight through us are beautiful and the ability to turn their heads seemingly clear around makes my neck hurt.  Since they are nocturnal creatures photographing them is nigh unto impossible so I have made very good use of wildlife refuges that specialize in treating and releasing injured birds and mamals if they are able to resume living on their own.  This painting is a 6x6 inch palette knife painting with the exception of those wonderful eyes and a few final touches with a brush.  The painting is available directly from the artist at pwhi!tacre@att.net or 865-932-6729.  Enjoy
