Stand Tall by Kay Wyne

Stand Tall
6" x 8" Oil on RayMar Panel
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
Shades of tangerine, turquoise, magenta and raw sienna are bouncing off of the trees. A palette knife was used for this little painting. There is texture in the trees and the falling leaves. Contact Kay to purchase at kay@kwyne.com. Thanks for viewing.

Fine Dining by Pamela Blaies

24" x 18"
oil on canvas

As I was moving stuff around, setting up this composition, a layer of the onion fell to the side, revealing the shiny, new skin of onion underneath. I liked the way it looked, so I left it right where it lay. As soon as the light hit the table, the ruby red of the onion just popped and the inside of the skin reflected the light as if it was inlaid with silver. With an emerald green bottle and a garlic clove the color of pearls, I almost felt like I was painting jewelry instead of dinner!

Delightful, cheery flowers. I'm already thinking of great gift size paintings for yes.....holidays!
Even though we are still sweltering in this heat wave
I'm excited about breaking out those sweaters and jeans.
I need to paint these lovelies while they're still blooming so keep checking back for more from my floral addiction!

Abstract Newport Back Bay Oil by California Janet Bludau

24" x 24"
Oil on Gallery Wrapped Canvas
Much of this painting is created with the palette knife, giving
it thick, chunky paint in places. The turquoise in the foreground and
hill area in the background made me happy.
The sky is not quite as you may see it on your monitor here.

Day 5, Santa Fe Art Trek with Niki Gulley

SANTA FE ART TREK:  Plein Air Painting / Photography Workshop with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams
Day 5, morning location, Canyoncito
12" x 24" textured oil by Niki Gulley

On the final day of our Santa Fe Art Trek, we headed to this quiet dead end road to paint the church at Canyoncito. The only traffic we saw all morning was one car and 2 bicyclists, which allowed us to really concentrate on the scene. The church is so charming that I decided to paint it in the setting around it to add to that idyllic feel. I loved how the brilliant white of the stucco and the red roof made the church stand out against all of the greenery and blue sky.

Frolicking Sea by Arlon Rosenoff

Frolicking Sea

Palette Knife Oil on Panel, Framed
Work will be available in 3rd Annual Fall Small Works Art Auction

Original Crystal Cove Petite by Deborah Harold

Abstract of cottage at Crystal Cove Historic Beach.
Using thick paint on a 5x5 artisan panel I strived to capture the rugged beauty of these
old broken down beach cottages that have been here for almost a century.
The beauty is in the looseness and haphazard test of time tenacity!
I love painting these little treasures.

Original Crystal Cove 2 by Deborah Harold

6x6 framed using oils, palette knife on museum quality artisan panel.
Painting Crystal Cove in the afternoon glow is like sipping my favorite wine with good friends.
Comfortable, relaxing and rewarding.
Using thick paint to express the joy of painting I then scrape away what I don't want to let the
charm of these cottages come through. This is a series I'm doing after taking numerous photos while walking at Crystal Cove in the setting sun. It's all about the reference photos you have. When I don't feel like I have any reference to paint I struggle. When I have a whole new crop of photos it's so much easier and my easel calls to me. I can't wait to get back to it.

Painting with a Spray Can? by Pamela Blaies

16" x 20"
oil on canvas

OK, so I didn't paint this (one of my newest paintings of lemons and a little blue bottle) with a spray can. But, since my new studio renovation has begun in earnest and I've been covered head-to-toe in dust almost constantly, I thought I'd share a spray paint adventure with you. I've decided I will include our old refrigerator in the studio furnishings, but it was bright white - not exactly what I had in mind. After a trip to Lowe's and a few empty spray paint cans - "Voila!" a new fridge. Check it out below.

Original Crystal Cove by Deborah Harold

6x6 on artisan panel, framed this piece is painted with thick and juicy oils.
A limited palette keeps the "white" house in shadow looking old. It is in historic Crystal Cove
on the coast of Southern California. The old homes waiting to be renovated are so great to paint, with their charm and all the lives they have seen come and go. Imagine what they could tell us!

 8x8 Angel
just SOLD

Colorful Angel

As always, my angels are inspired by our daughters, whom I call each, "Angel"
And truly they are my little angels.
Anyone with a little darling knows what I'm talking about.
These angels might represent our daughters, or even guardians, might be me, might be their grandmother,
neighbor or friend.
These are two colorful, moving new favorites!

Italian Sunflowers, North Light, Gray Day

8"x6" oil on linen mounted on archival panel
$200 unframed
Click on the image to see it larger!
A really nice one from 'the vault' that I had almost forgotten about! We planted this variety of Italian Sunflowers in our garden in previous years. I think I do miss them! They are a smaller flower head, and a creamy - buttery - pale yellow that goes really nicely with the hydrangeas we grow. Hmmm...already thinking about what I'd like to grow next summer!!  Cut flowers are so wonderful to bring into the studio to paint!

Pavilion at Balboa by Deborah Harold

20x20 on wrapped box canvas, this palette knife piece was purchased by the bride and groom

Summer Cruiser by Arlon Rosenoff

Summer Cruiser
24" x 32"
Palette Knife Oil on Cradled Panel

Plein-Air Painting in Santa Fe with Niki Gulley, Day 4

SANTA FE ART TREK:  Plein Air Painting / Photography Workshop with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams
Day 4, morning location - Rio Chama
9" x 12" oil by Niki Gulley

Today we headed back towards Abiquiu and set up our easels at the edge of this scenic overlook to capture the Rio Chama below. While the whole landscape is gorgeous, it is way too much information to capture on a small canvas, not too mention being able to paint the light quick enough before it changes in the afternoon. So we simplified the composition, breaking the hills and foliage into simple shapes and blocks of color. I loved the curving lines the various elevations and river formed, so I focused on that flow and movement, accentuating the energy of nature with my strokes.

Grand Central Station

Palette Knife Oil on Cradled Panel

Lilies from Long Ago by Pamela Blaies

14" x 11"
oil on canvas

As a reference for this painting, I used an image from 1901 of a little girl sitting in a garden filled with lilies. I just love vintage photos and their faded, sepia-toned black and white images. I'm fascinated by the life and times of the early 1900s and old photos give me a little peek back in time. I imagined the light softly illuminating all the beautiful colors of her white dress and the blooming white lilies.

8" x 8" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
by Texas Artist Kay Wyne
Thick paint on this small panel gives the contemporary painting lots of texture. I blended the colors on the panel as I applied the paint with the palette knife. No brushes on this painting. I now have a new favorite knife....it is a number 24, and gives me crisp edges, and can get into small spaces on the canvas. Thanks for viewing this blog and the art posted here. Have a great day.
