Hidden Passageway by Marion Hedger

Hidden Passageway
30x40cm (12x16") Oil on stretched canvas

We have lots of beautiful old villages around us, and apart from a few small paintings see this post here I have not painted any of them. I have hundreds of photos but there is something about painting buildings, however picturesque that I find daunting.

I decided it is about time I changed that and challenged myself to paint some larger pieces. OK this one is not a large one but a step along the way.

About this painting
This is an alleyway in St Paul de Vence my local village. It leads up to a hotel at the top and they always line the ally with flower pots. You often see tourists arriving, and after driving through the narrow village streets they then have to take their cases up this passage and negotiate the steps.

This painting is not as textured as usual, I have reserved the texture for the highlighted area. I scraped the foreground walls several times to give the impression of the weathered wall texture. Tell me if it worked.

Houses of Parliament, London, by New York artist, Celeste Plowden

This impressionist painting depicts the historic buildings on the Thames River, London, England, of the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben at dusk, the many Gothic spires reaching through the foggy sky to the pale moon. Somewhat abstract in the approach, and painted  with a palette knife, for texture, this is my impression of a favorite cityscape.  Acrylic on canvas, UV varnish, sides painted, wired and ready to hang. 12 x 12. I live in an area of France that is well known for its 'perched' villages. They are built on top of the hills generally to protect the population from the Moorish invaders. These villages have lots of small streets, alcoves, alleyways and arches. It is easy to loose your sense of direction with all the twists and turns. I always take loads of photos but to date I have not painted any of them. So, starting with a small box canvas, I decided it was about time LOL.
I like the texture on the closest wall.

Lavender fields Provence road trip by Marion Hedger

Lavender Farm in Provence by Marion Hedger
Painted from last year's trip photos
Oil on box canvas
15 x 20 cm (6" x 8") painted with a palette knife
FOR SALE VIA MY DPW STORE HERE
Here are a couple of photos from Monday's trip

Some of the lavender was not quite in full bloom with only a few fields giving that mind boggling purple haze. Everything seems to be late this year as we have had lots of rain and the it's been relatively cool. I also managed to get some photos of abandoned and dilapidated buildings/barns so expect to see some of these in future paintings.

STREET, CITY, BUILDINGS, TOM BROWN CONTEMPORARY URBAN LANDSCAPE

After a refreshing rain the air is clean and sweet. The streets sparkle with reflected light. And a colorful glow lights up the sky. It’s as if life is giving us a fresh start.

That’s what I wanted to express in this painting, and I was pleased with the result. I hope you agree. This is a 6x6 inch original oil painting named “AFTER THE RAIN”

I’ve put this painting on eBay with a very low starting bid. If you like it, place a bid now before I change my mind. (I can’t raise the starting bid once a bid has been placed.) Click here to bid:
