This painting was so much fun, particularly the stairs.

 Perspective on these old European buildings is challenging,

 as they are falling over with age, nothing is really straight.

The colors also lured me into painting this.

 We are so used to seeing variations of blue from Greece,

 who knew these bright orange & pinks were hiding away there too!

A Road Not Often Taveled...Palette Kinfe Painting by Peg Whitacre

Covered bridges can be found in many sections of our country.  The older ones are usually found in more remote,  rural areas.  Some are still in use, but many no longer support the weight of our modern day traffic.  Some communities take great pride in their local bridges and keep them painted and supported for minimal traffic.  Others have been turned into picnic areas with only foot traffic allowed.  This bridge was at one time a direct route from farm to market and is still used on rare occasions.   They are great fun to photograph and paint.

Here in East Tennessee tiny country churches abound.  This particular painting is based on a small church located in the Cades Cove area of Smoky Mountains National Park.  These churches are a familiar haunt of tourists, photographers and artists.  Picturesque surroundings and the ability to walk through them makes these very popular places to visit.  I chose to use this one in a palette knife painting because of its rugged surroundings.  Surely the people who inhabited this valley were a sturdy  group and many of their buildings still stand.  This painting is 9x12 in size and is available for $95 directly from the artist....pwhitacre@att.net or 865-932-6729.
