Tourettes-sur-Loup Courtyard corner oil palette knife painting by Marion Hedger
Tourettes-sur-Loup Courtyard corner by Marion Hedger
oil palette knife painting
15x20cm/6"x8" on box canvas
This courtyard is in one of my local villages. The old villages have high walls that cause the shadows to move very quickly across. So I used my artistic licence to recreate the lighting I wanted.

Village Nook and Crannies oil painting by Marion Hedger
Village Nook and Crannies by Marion Hedger
6"x8" oil on box canvas
I
live in an area of France that is well known for its 'perched'
villages. They are built on top of the hills generally to protect the
population from the Moorish invaders. These villages have lots of small
streets, alcoves, alleyways and arches. It is easy to loose your sense
of direction with all the twists and turns. I always take loads of
photos but to date I have not painted any of them. So, starting with a
small box canvas, I decided it was about time LOL.I like the texture on the closest wall.

Roussillon by Jeannette Johnston
Oil on Gallery Wrapped Canvas
24" x 20" / 12F
€150
Deatiled photographs showing texture and technique
and available to purchase online at
The village of Roussillon is set in a stunning location - its red houses built on a hill top contrast strikingly with the dark green woods that surround it. Beneath the village red cliffs plunge down steeply to the plain below. The ochre quarries, which are no longer mined, are open to the public and there is a beautiful path winding round between steep banks of yellow and pink rock, at places forming stacks known in Provence as 'chimneys'.

Bonnieux by Jeannette Johnston
Oil on Gallery Wrapped Canvas
24" x 20" / 12F
€150
Available to purchase online at
Bonnieux is a perched hill village in Provence, built of pale creamy grey stone looking out across a landscape of orchards and vineyards to the equally attractive village of Lacoste opposite. There is a particularly fine view from the old church which is at the top of the village and surrounded by cedar trees. Sleepy in winter, Bonnieux wakens up in the spring when visitors from other regions of France as well as further afield fill the shops and spill out on to the pavements in front of the many cafés.
