Houses of Parliament, London, by New York artist, Celeste Plowden

This impressionist painting depicts the historic buildings on the Thames River, London, England, of the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben at dusk, the many Gothic spires reaching through the foggy sky to the pale moon. Somewhat abstract in the approach, and painted  with a palette knife, for texture, this is my impression of a favorite cityscape.  Acrylic on canvas, UV varnish, sides painted, wired and ready to hang. 12 x 12. Available for sale at

GARDENS OF HYDE PARK, 7X5, OIL ON CANVAS BOARD SOLD

How many gentle flowers grow
In an English country garden?
I'll tell you now of some I know
And those I'll miss I hope you'll pardon
Daffodils, heart's ease and phlox
Meadowsweet and lilly stalks
Gentain, lupine and tall hollihocks
Roses, foxgloves, snowdrops, forget-me-nots
In an English country garden.

"Beachy Head Revisited" by Karla Nolan, unframed palette knife oil painting

This painting is a larger version of a previous palette knife oil painting.  I guess I was just practicing the first time, right?  This part of England is absolutely beautiful, as are many other areas, but I was surprised at how hot and humid it was! One can look across the English Channel towards France.   Many folks were strolling up and down the edges of these white cliffs and we were lucky enough to find an ice cream stand near the top of this particular section.  They certainly were steep cliffs, glad I had the nerve to look over the edge and not fall!  Whew!

"Looking North, Beachy Head" by Karla Nolan

We love to travel to foreign lands and see new sights.  I never dreamed I'd ever get to southeastern England, the Kent ("garden of England" -- like England isn't a garden everywhere!).  We took part of a day to drive to Beachy Head, right on the English Channel.  It was an exquisite sight to see, the water, the rocks below, the lighthouse, the cliffs bright white!  I'm so pleased to have had this experience and would urge everyone who visits the U.K. to go there.  Imagine the history!

Original oil painting Spring Tree Booms by Karen Tarlton

 Spring is so inspiring!
I recently returned from the gardens of Sweden, London, Denmark and Norway.
Beautiful everywhere. The world is colorful and inspirational, and the funny thing my favorite tree is my very own dogwood. Right at home :)
