Dreaming by Kay Wyne

Dreaming
36" x 36" Oil on Heavy Duty Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Floral Painting
Layers of paint, drips of paint, palette knife work, brush work, and a large palette full of color made this painting fun and exciting for me.  I wish I had photographed all the steps and the process that I took to get to this point.  "Dreaming" was inspired by a beautiful floral bouquet.  This painting is drying at the studio after weeks of painting on it.  Contact ME for purchasing info.  I was able to start the year off with a great day of painting in the studio...Thanks for looking at my blog.  Kay

Bountiful by Kay Wyne

Bountiful
36" x 60" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Floral Painting
Starting with a photograph of John's roses, I quickly added some other flowers to the canvas.  This painting is bold, colorful and graphic.  It has brushstrokes that you can see, along with palette knife work, both creating lots of texture.  This painting is hanging at the studio drying, and while I may make some minor changes, it is completed.  The thick paint will take a while to dry, and then I will need to varnish.  The sides of the canvas are painted black, and a frame is optional.  Thanks for looking at Bountiful,  Contact Kay for more information on this contemporary floral.  Kay

Oh Happy Day! by Kay Wyne

Oh Happy Day!
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
Floral Still Life
18" x 36" Oil on Heavy Duty Gallery Wrap Canvas
I can honestly say that this painting was painted from the heart.  It wasn't hard to paint.  It didn't take long.  It just came out of me.  And it makes me smile,  just as our family news on Sunday.  I wanted to paint something beautiful and lasting....so I went through my reference photos decided on a still life, and picked out a limited color palette of grays, greens and violets.  And just let it go.  The paint is applied with the knife and is really thick and textured.  This painting is drying at the studio.  Contact Kay Wyne for information on this painting.  Thanks for looking at this blog.

Smell The Flowers by Kay Wyne

Smell The Flowers
8" x 8" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Still Life Painting
This little palette knife painting was inspired by a small bouquet of pink and coral flowers that are at the studio.  I simplified the bouquet, and grayed down the colors, and went abstract.  I started to use a brush to apply the paint, but this painting called for the palette knife.  The colors used are left over from yesterday's painting...I freeze my oils so they don't dry out...I have piles of corals, pinks and lavenders in the freezer, so I might have another painting with the same colors in the near future.  I am happy with the composition, paint application and the way it turned out.  Thanks for looking at this blog....Kay

New Palette Knife Roses by Texas Artist Niki Gulley

12" x 12" Red Roses by Niki Gulley
 textured oil painting on canvas

I painted these roses from the still life with extremely thick paint and palette knife. The resulting canvas is loaded with texture, color and energy! I've painted it on 1 and 1/2 inch deep stretcher bars, with the image continuing around the edges so that it can be hung as is frameless for a contemporary look.

This floral looks great hung alone to brighten up a little spot, or in a grouping with some of my other contemporary flower paintings. Hang them horizontally, vertically, on a diagonal or stacked.

E-mail Niki Gulley for more information on this piece or to find out about complimentary companion paintings.

In the meadow - Original Palette Knife painting by Nithya Swaminathan

I'd like to believe that the coneflower isn't as varied as an Iris, or a rose in offering myriad painting possibilities. There is some scope however, and I am just looking to explore it a bit. My perspective would probably change if I got to see them in person, but then with only photos as sources for references, the images that I have are quite limited and I am just getting to them one by one. There are a couple of more to come, not many though. Let me know what you think of this one.

Basking in the Sun - Original Palette Knife painting by Nithya Swaminathan

After doing a lot of small format florals, I wanted to do a bigger one. Rather got a courage to tackle a bigger canvas. These poppies seemed just right for the big canvas. This is based on my own reference of some poppies in my neighborhood. In the early morning sunlight.

This painting is heavily textured, as it has been first sculpted with heavy acrylic gel using the knife. Let me know what you think.
