"Sun Drenched II" Textured Sunflower oil painting by Niki Gulley

"Sun Drenched II" ©2012 Niki Gulley
30" x 48" • textured oil on cavan

Inspired by our trip to Provence last summer, I was awestruck by these massive fields of sunflowers blooming. Seeing this brilliant carpet of gold, with its sea of faces smiling towards the sun, just made me feel happy and I wanted you to experience that joy, too. In person “Sun Drenched II” practically leaps off the canvas with its vibrant yellow petals and extremely thick three-dimensional oil paint.

Next summer we will be leading an Art Trek to Paris June 19-27 and Provence, France June 26-July 4, so if you've always dreamed of painting, photographing and sightseeing during lavender and sunflower season in France, and following in the footsteps of Monet, Van Gogh and Cezanne, please join us for this amazing trip! Details will be coming soon on nikigulley.com/artreks.

30" x 48” textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

Festive, sun-filled blossoms dance in the gentle breeze, filling the field with sweet fragrance. This textured oil painting captures a carefree summer morning with sunflowers overflowing the foreground, filling up the field with joy under the sunny skies above.

Textured Sunflower Series by Niki Gulley

"Sunny Moments V" ©2012 Niki Gulley
12" x 12" textured oil on canvas
This piece was selected to hang in the Artists of Texas Juried Show at the Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas

I painted these sunflowers with extremely thick paint and palette knife. The resulting canvas is loaded with texture, color and energy! I've painted it on 1 and 1/2 inch deep stretcher bars, with the image continuing around the edges so that it can be hung as is frameless for a contemporary look.

This sunflower scene looks great hung alone to brighten up a little spot, or in a grouping with some of my sunflower or floral scenes. Hang them horizontally (like pictured above), vertically, on a diagonal (as seen below) or stacked. Take a look at nikigulley.com/the-art/textured-oils/ to find complimentary companion pieces.

If interested in more information on pricing and purchasing, please e-mail Niki Gulley.

Sunflower Painting by Judy Mackey

"For You Sunflowers"
40" x  30", Oil on Canvase
Available for Purchase

I had painted a smaller version of this early but with irises.  My intention were to paint hands holding sunflowers but I did the irises first and on a smaller scale.  I really like the way it turned out so here is the sunflower version.

New Sunflower Painting by Niki Gulley

"Sun Drenched III" ©2012 Niki Gulley
36" x 48" textured painting on wrap around canvas

Sun Drenched III was inspired by our trip to Provence, France last summer. Our timing was perfect and the sunflowers and lavender were in full bloom. While we came across many fields of lavender, we had to search a little harder for sunflowers. Of course that meant sampling more of the local cuisine and wines for much needed fuel as we looked! (My husband likes to say we have to suffer four our art.)

When we eventually came across these sunflowers, I knew immediately they would make a perfect painting. Their bright, smiling faces as big as dinner plates, the sun dappled path leading you deep into the golden field to the quaint stone farmhouse in the distance, and a beautiful summer day with a few peaceful clouds drifting by made for the ideal subject. The resulting painting is so full of color and texture, and my hope is that when you gaze into it, this piece immediately lifts your spirits and brightens up any spot in your home.
