Last couple of weeks I have been working really hard on some Christmas Commissions.. Unfortunately due to the nature of them being surprise gifts, I don't want to post them until after the Holiday.
So here goes another Pear...This is the Larger version of the one I posted a few days ago...This one has heavy texture and incredible depth of color...Unfortunately the photo doesn't do it justice.
This one, along with all the other pears will be a STAR at the "Warm and Fuzzy" group exhibition at the Local Color of Raleigh Gallery. Opening Reception will be Friday, January 6th from 6pm till 9pm...

I can't remember a time that I didn't have an artistic pursuit but I found my true love with painting. Although I enjoy exploring with different techniques and materials, I primarily work in oils with an abstract style. Thick paint placed with a palette knife and strong geometric shapes are often found in my paintings.
After earning a degree in Business Admin/Marketing, I went on to several "Big Girl" corporate jobs and then owned and ran a design business in Hawaii, importing antiques from the mainland. My education was rounded out through the UC Berkeley Extension Art Program and the College of Marin Art and Design Program. I am fortunate to have had wonderful instructors as well as the insightful critiques of my fun, fellow painters.

A Spring Day by Chang 'Paul' Kang 18"x24" oil on canvas
May you be granted peace and happiness in your hearts this Christmas.

Hi Folks
Can't believe another year has nearly gone by. I must have been enjoying myself way too much to notice!
It's been a very busy year with exhibitions and I have to say it's been a year of new ventures and new happy acquaintances, so thank you to all my old friends and to the new. It's been a blast.
Your support and kindness I'll hold with me always.
To you I extend this special blessing
A kind word to someone lonely,
A warm smile to the disheartened,
A sincere concern for someone troubled,
A feeling of compassion for the neglected,
A comforting thought for the bereaved,
A respect for the dignity of others,
A support of the rights of individuals,
A word of wisdom to help a seeking soul,
And a very Merry Christmas to all.

Maria Noonan-McDermott's work is highly original; her creative and imaginative one-off pieces ensure her reputation for innovative and inspiring artwork that is eminently collectable and truly unique.
Maria currently works from her studio in Co. Leitrim. She has been painting for over twenty years and is well established and respected having contributed successfully to many gallery and public exhibitions throughout her career.
Her work, she says,
"...is about searching for the ultimate statement through colour and form, giving her paintings a voicebox for the inner soul we all possess, spiritual and mysterious."
Her style is distinctly recognisable as she paints with knife, confidently applying layer upon layer, enhancing the quality of light and movement and allowing the texture of the paint to play a key role in the structure of her work.
On show her paintings demand attention, grip the imagination and reward the curiosity of our senses.
Lavender Blue, Dilly Dilly....Knife/Brush painting by Peg Whitacre
I love all the "old songs" which I guess sort of dates me, but I really don't care! As these hydrangeas began to come to life as a painting I was immediately reminded of that old song title and decided that it fit the subject matter quite well! Allow me to take this opportunity to wish everyone and their familie and friends a very Merry Christmas and the hope of 2012 being the best ever for all who plow the fields of fine art and craft. In the grand scheme of things it will be just exactly what each one of us chooses to make it for ourselves. Happy New Year!!

Texas Bluebonnets & Indian Blanket by Niki Gulley
"Texas Treats V" ©2011 Niki Gulley
12" x 12" textured oil painting on canvas
I painted these Texas bluebonnets and Indian Blanket with extremely thick oil paint and palette knives to achieve extreme texture. The resulting image comes to life and is loaded with color and energy. In this wildflower series, I've painted the scene around the edges of the canvas on 1 and 1/2" deep stretcher bars so that the paintings can be hung without a frame for a unique sculptural effect.

Original oil painting Paris Eiffel Tower modern abstract fine art by Karen Tarlton
Paris Eiffel Tower
24x30
Oil
I love the pulls and drags of some of my abstract palette knife works involving rain people and animals so I combined a bit of architecture into this one.
Blurred abstract lights and brilliant contrasting color bring a bit of city swank to the canvas, and add color and sophistication to this textural painting.

I'm Kathy Willis, an Arizona native residing in Flagstaff, a late-comer painter, blogger, and trailrunner. I've long been inspired by my southwest homeland, however it was a life-changing journey walking the 500 mile Camino de Santiago in Spain in celebration of my fiftieth birthday, that I discovered a desire to express myself through art. Now, after several years dabbling in art classes, and sixty fast approaching, the urgency to commit to my painting journey has taken root. As they say, "If not now...When?"
I started this blog to motivate my daily painting practice, more easily share my work, and hopefully encourage other late-comers as well. I will be posting new small paintings at least weekly. Thank you for visiting my blog. Buen Camino

Palette knife oil sunset painting BECKY JOY
LAST LIGHT 6"x8" oil landscape $150.
This is a painting from my imagination. I like the freedom of creating from my mind and the use of color in sunsets. They are so much fun to play with. Today I haven't done a lot of work after teaching a workshop. Tomorrow I will be back at the easel full swing. I have a commission to finish up and a couple of paintings to finish before the first of the year.
Then, I will be working harder on painting for the Arizona Centennial exhibition of the 5 C's. To learn more about this project, go to the blog, 5 C's Art Project.

Textured Birch Oil Painting by Niki Gulley

“Ruby Emergence” ©2011 Niki Gulley
SOLD • 48” x 60” textured acrylic on wrap around canvas
I wanted this painting to be about the power and energy in nature to invigorate your spirit more so than an exact replica of the forest, so I chose to use warm vivid colors and thick staccato strokes to add to that feeling. I placed the foliage in diagonal sweeping shapes to create a sense of movement, so that you can feel the wind gently rustling the leaves and causing them to dance.

"Moon River....wider than a mile.
I'm crossing you in style one day...." You've got to love Johnny Mercer for
writing that classic. It is one of my favorite songs. I love the Andy
Williams version but my absolute favorite is by the great Satchmo, Louis
Armstrong. This is a view of the actual Moon River in the evening light. Be
honest, just looking at it makes you want to sing. :)

Born and raised in Savannah, Georgia, I have always had a passion for art. From drawing what must have amounted to thousands of pictures of horses and dogs as a child to studying art in college, it has always been as natural as breathing to me. For the last ten years while my children were small, I ran a successful business painting murals and decorative pieces. Here and there, I would snatch a few moments to paint for myself. Now that my children are older, I have decided to return to my love of painting full time and have studied with artists Andy Braitman, Dreama Tolle Perry and Leslie Saeta. I currently live in Charlotte, North Carolina with my family and a wonderful menagerie of pets.
Original oil painting Amalfi Coast by Karen Tarlton
Amalfi Coast

Inspiration for this painting....Italy and a trip to the Amalfi coast.
Over the years I am always inspired to further study the Fauves, and have a strong affinity for the 19th century French Post-Impressionists, Cezanne and Van Gogh.
Inspired by trips to Italy, I return when I can to renew my spirit and inspire my soul. I hope my works evoke emotion with opulence of light and distinctive color harmonies and textures.

On Kay Wyne's easel today....
This floral arrangement is absolutely gorgeous, even after a week has passed since Wes gave these to Lindsay. (Great choice of a sweet "just because" gift to your wife, Wes!) I spotted them on their coffee table, and could not resist.....I borrowed them for a couple of days. This photo isn't very good, which is the reason why it is beneficial to paint from a still life. What you see in life isn't the same as what you see in a photograph. It's better.
I was in the mood to paint BIG....this canvas is 36" x 36"... a great size. I toned the canvas with a transparent orange just so that I wouldn't start out with a stark white background. Then I sketched in the shapes with charcoal.Wednesday, December 14, 2011
BECKY JOY palette knife river and trees oil painting
River Light 5x7" oil landscape $95
I painted this from a photo taken in Utah. It had been raining and the light came out and hit the bank and trees in the background. I grayed the colors and used violet to contrast against the vibrant lights of the yellows and greens. I used the palette knife for texture.
It was and interesting night tonight, you won't believe what happened. Well, if you knew me, you might believe it. . We decided to step out tonight, so I grabbed my black hooded sweatshirt. I was pulling it on as I walked through the garage. Halfway out there I thought what happened. "Whoa, Mike why did you turn the lights out?" As soon as I said it, I realized my sweatshirt was on backwards and the hood was covering my face. Total darkness. It took me a while to figure that one out. LOL
Tomorrow I will be going out to the Superstitions to teach a one day workshop with some students. We got lucky, the rain has subsided and tomorrow is the one good day this week. This doesn''t usually happen in Phoenix.
Talk to you all later.

"Trail to Sabino Falls", by Kathryn Willis
Trail to Sabino Falls, 12x16" oil on panel, Kathryn WillisThe desert is ever changing and spectacular year round. A couple of weeks ago I painted this fall scene standing in the warm sunlight, high on a hilltop looking out to the falls and golden cottonwoods below. Today we had snow in the mountains, and a record rainfall in Tucson yesterday. A desert with water is a delight to behold. I hope this painting captures my delight.

Hi everyone, I played with color today. I thought I would post my source on this painting so that you could see how I often work. I had an old photo that I started with, then let my imagination take over with color.
I've also posted a few photos of my progression of the painting.
Now a final picture. Do you think it's time to clean? I have a path in the door, to the easel, and to the computer. The storage room on the right is impossible to get to right now. I'll start cleaning today, or maybe I'll just paint one more painting.
