Original oil painting Beach child sandcastles by Karen Tarlton
Sandcastles
12x16
Oil

Inspiration for this painting:
I have one daughter in studying abroad in Europe and another singing on spring break
in China. So - both babies are grown young women with some serious sandcastle building skills I think!
This is really how it all began....... and I remember these days like they were yesterday.
Hours of sandcastle building on the beaches of Florida and Southern California where we were stationed.
Carefree days of summer....

Original oil painting Wonders of the Seashore by Karen Tarlton
Wonders of the Seashore
20x24
Oil
A charming and special Summer beach
memory in vivid, rich oils and my modern impressionistic style. I think
it’s these special carefree moments in time that are the most precious,
and the ones we look back on tearfully as our children grow up. This
original oil painting is rich with color and texture. Thickly sculpted
with expressive palette knife movements, I capture a young girl enjoying
the wonders of the ocean.

GIRL PORTRAIT with BRIGHT BACKGROUND by OLGA WAGNER
This is an older painting that I re-worked the background and the hair on...It's fun to take older work that is so-so and breathe new life into...

Karen Tarlton Original palette knife oil painting - Beach Play
Ocean Play
16x20
Oil
Sweet summer memories in multiple layers of oil. Took awhile to build up all these glowing textures of color. Since I have two daughters, grown up now, this is one of my personal favorites!

I'm feeling nostalgic this Mother's Day eve. My girls are all grown up....18 and 16 and I don't know whether to cry for joy for what wonderful young women they have become, or sob in sadness for the fact that they are young women and not my little babies anymore.
I'm sure I'm not the only mother with this story and these empty nest feelings. Our oldest is off to college in a few months. So this is the long windend inspiration for my new series of beach baby paintings! Makes me happy to paint these and I'm hoping they make someone else smile too. Many more in the works, but this is one of my favorites!!
Happy Mother's Day!
