"Red Sail" by Lynda Cookson

Last day of the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge.

Thank you so much everyone out there for putting up with me on a daily basis this past month ... you lovely comments and patience have been very appreciated. I know that if I hadn't put it out there for public viewing every day, I wouldn't have learned nearly as much as I did.

Halfway through I felt quite drained with it but got past that and may even do it again on an annual basis. Who knows!

Hookers and Boats by Lynda Cookson

From my years living in the West of Ireland, it was always so special to spot a Galway Hooker plying the waves, often between the Aran Islands off Galway and into Galway Bay. I believe there is still at least one enthusiast still making and restoring Hookers.

Years ago, in the area we lived in (Connemara) the Hookers would be used to ferry turf (peat) and supplies from the mainland to islands like the three Aran Islands. I watched a video once of an old movie made whilst towing a horse across the bay between the islands and Galway. I didn't much like that, feeling awful for the poor horse, but those days were much harder than now, in that respect, so perhaps I shouldn't judge!

I've popped in a couple of watercolours of boats amongst the Hooker paintings below.

Happy New Year everyone!
Lynda

Sailing, Hobie Cat Sail Boat Painting by Palette Knife Artist, Judy Mackey

"Sailing"
10" x  8", Oil on Board

I've had this commission for several months - before Christmas but my life has been so topsy-turvy lately that I'd let the painting slide.  It's an excuse.

People have gone through worse tragedies and misfortunes and have yet had the tenacity to pick up a brush or palette knife and worked through it.

My heart is on it's way to recovery and my days, while still hectic can be tamed a bit.  I have good people, good friends who have supported me and kept me going.  I am so blessed with this - My Life.

At any rate, the commissioner was patient and allowed me to take all the time I needed...and so here is her painting...I've tentatively titled it "Sailing".  She is free to rename this, of course.

If you are interested in commissioning me to paint something special for you, please email me at judy@judymackey.com.  If you like my work, leave me a comment, share this blog with your friends and LIKE ME ON FACEBOOK - Thank you!!.

30x40" Original Oil Painting "A Spinnaker Day" SOLD

For years, I have been painting small daily paintings, day after day, month after month.  I liked the instant gratification,  starting a new project every day, no build up of huge inventory to clog my closets and under my beds.

SOLD

Now, I find myself getting a little bored with the same routine and I'm trying to fit some larger pieces into my schedule.

This one was very interesting to do.  It is a palette knife painting and I had lots of fun working on it.  I have changed my technique with a palette knife and ended up with a painting with plenty of texture.

I enjoyed working on this piece and plan to attempt more large works on a regular basis.

Original oil painting Come Sail Away with Me by Karen Tarlton

~ The sea inspires me, yes..... “When I’m old and gray, I want to have a house by the sea. And paint. With a lot of wonderful chums, good music, and booze around. And a damn good kitchen to cook in.” ~ Ava Gardner
and I agree :)

"Just Sailing Along" by Karla Nolan, framed painting on glass

We have just returned from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, and please keep in mind, I am not used to seeing so much water around us!  We are happily landlocked in northern Colorado but being near the H2O is quite refreshing and enjoyed our time there.  I painted this painting on glass some time ago and thought I'd show it to you here, in honor of all the blues that we saw while on vacation!  Best seen in person, of course, as are most paintings on glass.

"Just Sailing Along", 10.25"x17.5" measured edge to edge glass, framed as shown, write me at KarlaNolan@gmail.com for more information
