Labor Day Break? by Pamela Blaies

Texas Lilacs and Lemon Slices

I am enjoying spending time with my family this weekend. Mostly fun time, but today we are working on cleaning out the garage together. WAIT! Isn't Labor Day supposed to be a day to take a break from labor? Oh well, it's fun doing it together! Speaking of satisfying labor, this painting is one I finished last week. My focus on creating a more loose feel in my work is really inspiring me. It requires a careful consideration of edges and thoughtful placement of brushstrokes.

Little Pink Teacups by Pamela Blaies

6" x 6"

I've been admiring the buttercups along the road and went on a quest to find some to paint yesterday. It was a little too windy to paint outside, so I brought them in. I love the light play on the petals.  They are like little, pink teacups.

Is Perfection the Enemy of Good? by Pamela Blaies

12" x 16"

I got up early yesterday and painted until late in the evening. I'm working on loosening up my style a bit. I tend to be a perfectionist and it is difficult for me to stop adding details and "perfecting" my paintings. For me, I find that some detail is necessary especially in the focal areas. But too much detail can take away from the experience. I did a couple of quick studies of these irises to get myself warmed up, then completed this painting. They are such a pretty color. I'm headed to the studio again today hoping they still look fresh so I can paint them again.

Romantic Reflections by Pamela Blaies

9" x 12"

I'm a little late sharing this one, but my sweetie gave me a dozen beautiful red roses for Valentine's Day. He knows how much I love flowers. I painted three of them scattered on a silver platter, which was a wedding present over 15 years ago. I see lots of symbolism in this painting. Even the reflections of the freshly cut, romantic roses in the slightly tarnished silver platter seem to say things to me.
