I was not finished with this scene!  I wanted to do another version, so I cropped my original image and returned to the easel.

Maybe, it was the color combination, but I still had more to say.  This time I started with a complete abstract, nothing but color.  As I painted, it became a little more realistic.  I did my best to stop before over-working the piece.

I have often wondered where artists get the images for their room settings to display their art. I vaguely remember Sea Dean writing something about it on her blog Sea Dean - Paint a Masterpiece Blog 

So I trawled her blog and discovered this post. A great app and one I shall be using again. I agree with her assessment of the app so I will let you read her post to save repeating it. The biggest drawback with the app is the inability to size your app to the correct proportion, it's all a little bit of guesswork.

"Heavenly Bluebells" Original Oil Painting by Hallie Kohn Art

I'd like to start out this post by thanking all of you for looking and for following my blog. This is such an incredible journey for me, and each painting is a new lesson in learning. I can't imagine doing anything I love more. Thank you :)

Bluebells are another one of my absolute favorite flowers. They will always remind me of our family friend Lisa--got my bluebells from her son's yard. There is no grass there, only bluebells. Heaven.

"Tulips Don't Lie" Original Oil Painting by Hallie Kohn Art

Wisconsin had the longest, coldest, strangest winter that I can remember. It is with total disbelief that I acknowledge there were a minimum of six months of it, at least 30 days of below zero temperatures. I stay home with my younger son, and we literally Stayed Home. Too many days. We forgot what warmth felt like for a while, and that is not a good thing. Then, these tulips came and I knew. We could crack a window, bust out the ankles, and romanticize "that crazy winter" in past tense.

More red and more tulips for day 23 in the challenge. I love this red colour, it is Scarlet Lake by Winsor and Newton. I like to use it straight from the tube for a luscious red colour. When mixed with white it gives a lovely soft peachy/pink colour.

About this painting
I find that reds can quickly lose their vibrancy when the paint dries. To help the red stay bright, I always underpaint with yellow.
