Abstract II by Kay Wyne

Abstract II (Untitled)
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
40" x 30" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
This is the companion piece that hangs next to yesterday's painting that I posted.  Below is a picture of the two canvases on my easel.  Hanging as a diptych would make the painting approximately 40" x 60"...and would look great in a home or office setting.  The sides need to have a second coat of light grey paint, and I may put a few touches on it.
Today is Day #4 in the 30/30 Day Paint Challenge.  I have several abstracts and florals on my easel...I can't wait to get back into the studio after the holidays and the crazy schedules.  Thanks for looking at my art on this  blog....contact Kay Wyne for purchasing info.  KMW

Field of Color by Kay Wyne

Field of Color
30" x 30" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
Color variation and texture make this contemporary landscape painting interesting.  I mixed and mixed the oils as I moved across the canvas.  When looking at this painting, sometimes I see patches of flowers, and sometimes I see water.  This painting is dry, and ready for a new home.  Framing is optional because the sides of the painting are painted.  Contact Kay for purchasing info.  Thanks for looking at this blog...Kay

Follow Me by Kay Wyne

Follow Me
12" x 12" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
Floral Landscape
I am taking this painting off the easel for now...I signed it, but need to live with it and think about it...I am not sure if it is finished.  It might be that I am finished painting on it for now.  I used a palette knife on this panel...all the way.  Lots of texture and built-up paint.

I started with a rather simple landscape, and wanted the path to fade into the distance.  The wildflowers are scattered throughout the field, and at some points over-lap into the pathway.  I would hope that the viewer can get lost in this painting, enjoying the "unknown" in this painting.  Contact Kay for more info on this painting.  Thanks for looking...Kay

Oh Happy Day! by Kay Wyne

Oh Happy Day!
18" x 36" Oil on Heavy Duty Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Floral Still Life Painting
I loved painting this palette knife painting.  It was a day when everything fell into place and I the painting process was so much fun.  I was wanting to explore the greens, muddy greys and violets.  Spending a lot of time mixing my oils, I limited myself to various shades of those colors only.  The horizontal format was fun to work on...a change from my favorite square format.  This painting was part of an exhibit at Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas, Texas and is still on display there.  Thanks for looking at my art....Kay

Bountiful by Kay Wyne

Bountiful
36" x 60" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Floral Painting
Starting with a photograph of John's roses, I quickly added some other flowers to the canvas.  This painting is bold, colorful and graphic.  It has brushstrokes that you can see, along with palette knife work, both creating lots of texture.  This painting is hanging at the studio drying, and while I may make some minor changes, it is completed.  The thick paint will take a while to dry, and then I will need to varnish.  The sides of the canvas are painted black, and a frame is optional.  Thanks for looking at Bountiful,  Contact Kay for more information on this contemporary floral.  Kay

Missed The Boat by Kay Wyne

Missed the Boat
12" x 12" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
A trip to Maine gave me the inspiration to paint this small dinghy that was tied up in a fishing village.  I liked the rust and color changes on the metal, the textures in the rocks, and the variations in the water as it rippled across the rocks.  This small painting is available, and looks great framed up.  Contact Kay for more information.  Thanks for looking at this blog.  Kay

Enchanting by Kay Wyne

Enchanting
36" x 36" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Floral Landscape Painting
Enchanting is one of those paintings that went through many stages.  I used a large, heavy duty gallery wrap canvas, therefore the sides of the canvas (about 2 1/2") are also painted.  In my mind, I separated the painting in three parts:  sky/background, mid-ground, and foreground.  All three areas of the canvas had to be different sizes...I didn't want three equal parts.  I wanted the horizon to melt into the sky and recede.  The mid-ground needed to have someone color, but not as much as the foreground.  I used the palette knife and impasto on the florals to create texture and interest.  This painting is hanging at Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas, TX.  Thanks for looking at this blog...Kay

Blowing In The Wind by Kay Wyne

Blowing In The Wind
30" x 40" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Aspens - Palette Knife Painting
My painting for the paint challenge was a scraper.  Just didn't make the cut, so I am posting one of my contemporary aspen paintings.  I usually choose a square or vertical format for my aspens, but Blowing In The Wind is on a heavy duty (thick and chunky) horizontal stretcher bars.  I used bold colors, brushes and the palette knife.  The trees are thick and textured, as are the leaves that are falling.  This painting is for sale....contact Kay for purchasing information.  It is ready for a new home!  Thanks, Kay

Thoughtful by Kay Wyne

Thoughtful
24" x 20" Oil on Gallery Wrap Linen
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
Raw natural linen is what I painted this still life on.  The red tulips were gorgeous in an arrangement that was leftover from a Valentine's Day gift...I loved the shapes of the flowers and the refection in the glass vase with the stems in it.  I put some dark torrit grey paint at the vase...to ground it. I used the palette knife on this linen, and let the natural linen show through, not painting it all out.  Thick, thick, thick paint adds texture and interest to this contemporary floral, giving it an abstract quality. Contact Kay for more information on this painting.  Thanks, Kay

Missed The Boat by Kay Wyne

Missed The Boat
12" x 12" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
An old dinghy tied up to a dock caught my eye when we were in a small fishing village in Maine.  I loved the old and weathered metal on the boat.  It was rusty and rough.  The water skimmed over the rocks leading up to the shore.  I used a palette knife to give the rocks and dinghy texture and depth.  This painting looks great framed up in a dark wood moulding.  Contact Kay for more information on this painting.  Thanks for looking...Kay

Reflections by Kay Wyne

Reflections
12" x 16" Plein Air Landscape
Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Day 4 of the 30/30 Challenge
I started to post another painting, but decided that I needed to make some changes on it in the studio today.  So I am posting a plein air painting that I painted at Turtle Creek in Dallas.  The sky was changing quickly and the light and shadows were moving.  I used my trusty palette knife on this panel. My goal was to nail the colors of the day and get the lily pads in the painting.  At first I was concerned that there was too much green in the landscape, and also so many variations of green.  I finished this painting in about an hour and half.

This painting is ready to be framed, and ready for a new home.  Contact Kay for more information on this painting or any others posted here.  Be sure to check out the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge with Leslie Saeta.  Lots of art posted on one blog from 1,000 artists!  Thanks, Kay

Hello from Manchester, England... and memories of Crozon-Morgat, Brittany, France

Hi, I'm Sarah Morley, a knife painter based in Stockport, Cheshire, England. This is my first ever post on this blog as I have only just joined the Palette Knife Painters blog and website. Looking forward to making contact with fellow bloggers and others who are as into knife painting as I am!

This week I've just got back from Crozon- Morgat in Brittany - where we go 'en vacance' every year. Have come back full of ideas for seascapes and other stuff  and itching to get painting- it is really beautiful over there! I actually did this painting just before I went away - inspired by memories and photos from last year - the surf is always brilliant out there - with the Atlantic hitting the rocks in really spectacular fashion  - and it was just like this last week!

Hope you like my first offering. It is oil on canvas painted exclusively with a couple of knives. Size is 14" x 12". Available to buy from me for $425 ono plus shipping. I can be contacted through my
website.

Impulsive by Kay Wyne

Impulslive
18" x 18" Oil on Heavy Duty Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Floral Landscape Painting

This painting was a total re-do for me.  I had an abstract
on the canvas, was totally not liking it.  So I switched
gears and decided it would be a floral landscape...rather
abstract, with thick, thick paint.  I put it on the studio wall
immediately because I did not want to bump into the wet
paint.  I was very impulsive on this painting, and pulled
out some tools---no brushes.  I used a couple of palette
knives, some wipe-off instruments that are great for
scraping and drawing through the paint.  Thanks for
looking at this blog.  Contact Kay for purchasing info.

Enchanting by Kay Wyne

Enchanting
36" x 36" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Wildflower Landscape Painting
Today is the first day of the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge....and yes, I am participating again!  I enjoy a challenge and since I am working on a landscape series, my theme is Wildflower Landscapes.  Be sure to check out all of the work Leslie Saeta's 30 Paintings in 30 Days Paint Challenge.  This painting, Enchanting is now finished.  I reworked the clouds and flowers in the back ground.  I softened the sky with more paint and a large dry brush.  The flowers in the foreground are painted with thick, palette knife strokes...lots of texture.  Contact Kay for more information on this painting.  It is drying in the studio.  Thanks, Kay

Big Guy by Kay Wyne

Big Guy
30" x 30" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Rooster
This palette knife painting is fun, colorful and has lots of texture.  You can see the layers of paint, as it was applied with a knife.  You can't help but want to put your hands over the surface and feel the chunks of paint.  The paint is also on the sides of the stretcher bars, so framing is optional.  Contact Kay for more information on this painting.  Thanks for looking...Kay
