San Diego Starry Skyline painting by Karen Tarlton palette knife fine art impressionism

t's not only the color thing that thrills me, it's the texture. Lots of broken color helps leave a soft coastal impression I think.

Ocean Beach Pier at Dusk painting by Karen Tarlton palette knife fine art impressionism

This is my third OB pier painting.
I've painted it at sunrise, sunset and now dusk.
Still need to paint a foggy scene and maybe an early morning light we'll see.
It's amazing how the light is never the same twice.

Painting Peonies in San Diego - Flower Paintings by Nancy Medina

Windswept White Peony
by Nancy Medina
Oil on Archival Panel

I found pink and white peonies, white tulips, big bunches of violet blue hydrangeas, wild English Garden delphiniums and orange gerbera daisies today for my class in Irving, Texas beginning tomorrow morning. I can hardly wait to paint with 15 ladies and one gentleman from Louisiana, Oklahoma, and across Texas! I'm usually plotting and planning months in advance for upcoming workshops, and my new November 14-16 San Diego workshop page got its final polish today. I am trying out a whole new fancy format gadget thingy ma bob. I'm so very proud of myself for figuring out how to use it - take a peek and let me know what you think!

Petal Pinpoint Daisies is the newest daily work in Flower Mound Studio and we're celebrating! I'm excited to announce my new workshop August 1-3, in sunny San Diego, California. After a long, icy, chilly winter in North Texas, I'm ready to wiggle my toes in the sand and paint California flowers 'til the cows come home. I'll be taking my students on a tour of some of my favorite flower gardens on Coronado Island in the evenings and class is open for beginners as well as advanced painters in oils, acrylics and water based oils. I sure hope to see you there!

Every painting class I teach is a whole new adventure, and each one takes on its own texture, style, culture and flavor, depending on the mix of student personalities. San Diego was definitely one of those groups who had no fear of fun. Or maybe it was the Donut Bar gourmet sugar that set everyone off, you can see here that our tour of Coronado Flower Gardens had us ready to take notes. We had the great fortune to run into the architect of Flower Gardens of Coronado, Juan Flores, who shared all his favorite tips for making delphiniums and foxgloves look their absolute best. Next stop was dinner at an Irish Pub downtown. After a few high kick routines in Balboa Park on Sunday, it was the general consensus we would not be quitting our day jobs to join the Rockettes for their Christmas Tour, (although Alan said that after his hip surgery next week, he will be ready to touch his nose with his toe....)

Move over Rockettes, my San Diego class is ready to take the stage!
Well, okay, maybe just inch over Rockettes....

Wild at Heart Orange Parrot Tulips is the daily newbie in Flower Mound Studio, a busy day and my first day back from my workshop in Florida. The handy thing about traveling a lot is just keeping the art supplies packed, since the next workshop is just around the corner! I had 2 seats open up in my sold out San Diego workshop yesterday, so this is your chance to join me to paint flowers, West Coast artists! We will take a field trip to Coronado Island to tour some of my favorite cottage gardens after class, so I sure hope to see you there. Read more...

SOLD ~ Hydrangeas and Blue Plumbago and a Space Coast Workshop by Nancy Medina

SOLD

20X16
Oil on Archival Panel

I am sad to say farewell today to the Space Coast, the warm sun, the full moon over the ocean, and a classroom filled with talented, funny, delightful students who are so lucky to live in this charmed place. It's no wonder my students were so good natured, I'd be smiling, too, if I lived in a place where the beaches were warm and the palm trees grew like weeds everywhere you look.

As my workshop hostess gave me a tour of her town, I had the funniest sensation I had been there before, though I knew I had never been there. Have you ever had that happen? I told her I had dreamed when I was a little girl of living in a little pink house on the beach. She said there was a line of little pink houses just up the road, right on the beach, not far from where we were. We didn't get a chance to find the pink house of my dreams, but maybe that's all for the good. I'm still holding onto that dream! I'm sad to say goodbye to Florida, but excited to return to San Diego in just a few weeks for my workshop in Balboa Park. West Coat friends, I hope to see you there!

SOLD ~ Pink Roses of Coronado and a San Diego Workshop by Floral Artist Nancy Medina

Adrift on the Breeze ~
Pink Roses of Coronado Island
by Nancy Medina

SOLD

8X10
Oil on Archival Panel

Adrift on the Breeze, Pink Roses of Coronado Island is the newest small daily painting in Flower Mound Studio. I love making bright color happen on canvas, and pink roses just lend themselves to so many different combinations - blues, oranges, purples, and - don't forget - pinks! We'll be painting pink roses during my workshop in San Diego in November, along with quite a few other fresh flowers. I hope to see you there. Bring your walking shoes and warm up your camera, I'm going to take you to the garden where these pink roses grow all year round! Click here for more information!
Set me a task in which I can put something of my very self,

and it is a task no longer; it is joy; it is art.

"In The Distance" Abstract Landscape/Seascape Palette Knife Painting by California Janet Bludau

12" x 12"
Oil
The blues and greens in this painting are soft and restful.
Blue is sometimes difficult to read on our computer monitors.
Let me know if you would like any other photos emailed to you.
If I had to name the predominate blue, I would say
"Soft Turquoise"
