"Ruin Above the Mist" was inspired by the wide open spaces, the big skies, where ancient ruins watch out over the lands in Ireland.

It's damp and cool where the blues, greens and grey rule. Crispness dominates in both temperature and view clarity. Ireland breaks all the gauges when it comes to measuring beauty ... too much to measure!

We lived in Connemara for many years and absorbed the magic of the ancient history there ... with the help of some stunning and mystical weather.

This is from a mini series I did in Ireland. This one is from Leenane in Connemara where Killary Fjord is the only fjord in Ireland.

I'm thinking of doing more minis (4" x 4") soon ... perhaps of harbour scenes here in Brittany. Perhaps putting this up here will get me going!! LOL

Hookers and Boats by Lynda Cookson

From my years living in the West of Ireland, it was always so special to spot a Galway Hooker plying the waves, often between the Aran Islands off Galway and into Galway Bay. I believe there is still at least one enthusiast still making and restoring Hookers.

Years ago, in the area we lived in (Connemara) the Hookers would be used to ferry turf (peat) and supplies from the mainland to islands like the three Aran Islands. I watched a video once of an old movie made whilst towing a horse across the bay between the islands and Galway. I didn't much like that, feeling awful for the poor horse, but those days were much harder than now, in that respect, so perhaps I shouldn't judge!

I've popped in a couple of watercolours of boats amongst the Hooker paintings below.

I often take a break in Milly the Motorhome, taking not only oil paints with me, but also inks and watercolors. Well, who knows how the wind will blow!

Having lived with the stunning mini-Fuschia hedges in Ireland for more than a decade, they are, of course, very close to my heart and imprinted on my soul. It was watercolor for this painting.
