Thunder in Tuscany and 1000 Years of Prayer - Nancy Medina Art Classes and Workshops

Thunder Red Geraniums
by Nancy Medina
16X12
Oil on Archival Linen

Class Demonstration, Tuscany, Italy

Thunder rolled across the Tuscan hills last night, blasting light in bolts that shook the ground and threw out the power for a short time during our dinner hour at San Fedele in the Chianti region of Italy. We grabbed our wine glasses, cameras, and other valuables from tables on terraces overlooking vineyards and ran into the chapel to escape a drenching rain. As black clouds moved quickly across hills that had seen the boots of the Gestapo, the soft tread of monks, and the footprints of local farmers, it seemed only fitting to find sanctuary in a place where prayer had been given for 1000 years.

Hothouse Sunnies and a Tuscany Painting Workshop - by Nancy Medina Art

 Hothouse Sunnies
by Nancy Medina

Class Demonstration
12X12
Oil on Deep Gallery Wrap Canvas

Hothouse Sunnies was one of my six class demonstrations during my flower and landscape painting workshop in North Texas this weekend. The tulips we painted are still blooming, the gift that keeps on giving and my house is filled with fresh flowers - one of the fringe benefits of being a flower painting teacher! I love my job.... Another great perk, besides helpers who are cute and furry and four-footed, is getting to travel and teach - my next European destination is coming up in June and you are invited! Painters and non-painters alike are welcome - I'm saving a poppy with your name on it!

"Walk Into the Poppy Fields" by Karla Nolan

I usually don't paint large artworks.  They take forever and try my patience.  However, I do want to paint large paintings more frequently.  Finding the right subject matter can be difficult and planning the whole scene just as trying.  However, I have worked on this painting off and on over a couple of years and am finally reasonably satisfied.  Who doesn't enjoy a walk into an Italian poppy field in Tuscany?

"Walk Into the Poppy Fields", 24"x36" palette knife oil painting on gallery wrapped canvas, $1295 includes s/h in continental U.S., click Paypal button below or write me at KarlaNolan@gmail.com for more information

Thanks for viewing my art!  Greetings from Fort Collins, Colorado

Day 12, Project 125 Susanville, CA Barn plein air painting

© 2013 Becky Joy    Susanville, CA Barn      oil      6 inches x 6 inches    $125.

I didn't get out of Lake Tahoe until almost 11:00. (I had to stop by the post office to get something in the mail that was overdue, oops!) Anyway, got my work done and posted my painting from the night before.

I remember Susanville from years ago going through there on the way to Reno from Oregon. I don't know why it has always stuck in my mind, but I do love those old barns and farms. In this barn I got a great shot of an old truck, which is below. I'll have to paint that later.

It was afternoon by the time I got in Susanville. I was struck by the beautiful blues of the mountains. That blue always seems indescribable in paint. It's kind of an ultramarine & colbalt combination. In this painting I placed the light of the sky against the dark of the barn, adding a little yellow and cad red to the white, just a tiny, tiny bit. I very seldom use a pure white in a painting and only sparingly.

Plein Air Painting in Tuscany with Niki Gulley

"Magical Light, Tuscany" • 8" x 10" oil by Niki Gulley

ART TREKS: TUSCANY
with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams

During our plein air painting workshop in Tuscany last September, we finished a delicious antipasto lunch of prosciuttos, local pecorino, fresh fruits and vegetables, and we headed into the hills for our afternoon painting location. Starting fairly late in the day, we timed it so that the light would be soft and golden as we were putting the finishing details on our paintings. For this painting, we focused in on one of the tuscan farmhouses, with just a suggestion of the peaks and valleys in the background. Between the quiet surroundings, the quintessential Tuscan vineyard behind us and the perfect weather conditions, this proved to be a very inspiring afternoon.

If you would like to join us on future ART TREKS to Paris, France in May, Tuscany, Italy in September, or Cinque Terre / Lake Como, Italy in September visit nikigulley.com/artreks. Registration deadline is Fri. Feb. 17th.

Tuscan Landscape III
10"x10"x1.5"
Mixed media on Canvas
$100.00

This is the third of my Tuscan inspired palette knife series.  The collaged canvases were originally intended for something else and had been sitting in the corner of my studio for a few months.  Since I've been experimenting with palette knife painting lately, I decided to paint directly on the prepared canvases and allow the collaged materials show through the heavy impasto.

To purchase this or the whole grouping, please contact me.

Tuscan Landscape I
10"x10"x1.5"
Mixed Media on Canvas

I just completed a series of four small, very textural abstracted landscape paintings.  The movie "Under the Tuscan Sun" was the inspiration and although I have never been to Tuscany, I tried to capture the feel of the the countryside, the warmth of the sun and some of the archetecture.

To purchase one or all four, please contact me.
