Far Away by Kay Wyne

Far Away
20" x 20" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract - Palette Knife Painting
I had an underpainting on this canvas that wasn't working for me, so I changed it up and got my palette knife out and started pushing and pulling the paint.  Then I used a rubber wipe-out tool to draw some lines and move paint around.  Then signed it!  Far Away is for sale, and you can contact Kay Wyne for purchasing info.  Thanks for looking at my blog....I will be in the studio today working on Day #6 for the paint challenge!  KMW

Flutter by Kay Wyne

Flutter
24" x 24" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
Today's post is a canvas that I painted several months ago, and it is finally dry.  This dragonfly is abstract and colorful.  I love painting with the palette knife---pushing the paint around, scraping and building the layers up.  I am getting ready to do a palette knife demo this week, so that will be fun.  I have been working on projects in the studio, but don't have a new one to post today.  Thanks for looking....contact Kay for comments or questions.  Thanks, Kay

Ready to be framed!
This painting will be an entry for the Artists of Texas Annual Show at Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas, Texas to be held in November and December. The colors are crisp and clear, just like you would see on a brisk fall day. I used the brush and palette knife on this painting...there is plenty of texture. I hope to frame this painting in a black floater frame. Thanks for viewing this blog, Kay

Contemporary Aspens by Kay Wyne

Aspens...Untitled
I just finished these aspens today. They are on a 12" x 48" Heavy Duty Gallery Wrap Canvas...very tall and narrow. The oils are thick and buttery...it will take weeks for this to dry. I was inspired by a photograph taken by Sara Settles in Colorado...of course I added my own flair to the trees and landscape. I haven't had time to really think about the title for this painting...if you have any ideas, please let me know! Thanks for viewing this blog. Kay at 214-532-0325 or kay@kwyne.com.

Horizon Series: Abstract 1027 by Kay Wyne

Horizon Series: Abstract 1027
Oil on 22" x 30" Gallery Wrap Canvas
This abstract went through alot of changes before it was completed. When I started it, I was using a totally different color scheme and did not know I was going in this direction. I applied layers and layers of color...there is alot of movement and depth in this abstract. I used both the brush and palette knife on this one. Lines, shapes, color and texture...it is all on this canvas. I really like this size canvas...it hangs well above a dark piece of furnture or tilted up against the wall, sitting on a table or cabinet. This contemporary abstract is on gallery wrap canvas, so no frame is needed. It is ready to hang! Thanks so much for viewing this blog. Please contact me if you are interested in purchasing this painting. Have a great day! Kay

This 36" x 36" Oil Painting on Gallery Wrap Canvas is finished! I worked on it all morning at the studio, signed it and hung it for the Open Studio Tour this weekend. The paint is exstremely wet. I am not sure what I will name this painting. I started it at The Dutch Art Gallery on Saturday for a palette knife demonstration.

A reminder that The Texas Discovery Garden at Fair Park in Dallas has the exhibit, Bringing the Trinity to Life. Studio Art and Soul will be exhibiting at the Discovery Gardens through the end of the year. Coming up this Saturday, November 20, 2010 - 8th Annual Cedars Open Studios Tour. This is always a fun event...please visit our studio and the neighborhood studios in The Cedars of Dallas.

Once In a Blue Moon by Kay Wyne

Once In a Blue Moon - SOLD!
16" x 20" Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Oil Painting

Once in a Blue Moon ... a phrase that we have all heard. This was a topic of conversation in the Wyne house lately....it is a common way of saying not very often, but what exactly is a Blue Moon? It is the second Full Moon to occur in a single calendar month. That occurred last December, when we had a Full Moon on the 2nd and the 31st. According to the experts, there will be 41 months that have two Full Moons in every century, so you could say that once in a Blue Moon actually means once every two-and-a-half years.

Once in a Blue Moon is also a title for lyrics to songs....like the Van Morrison song....
Once in a blue moon
Something good comes along
Once in a blue moon
Everything's not going wrong
When you get weary
Beating on the same old gong
Once in a blue moon
Someone like you comes along
When I started the above painting, I had a collage look going, starting with the words, Once in a Blue Moon painted on the canvas several times. If you look closely you can see them under the layers of paint. You can also see two images of horses, geometric figures and layers of paint along with oil crayons. I used the palette knife and brushes on this one. There is alot of movement in the painting and the eye jumps from one shape to the next shape. This contemporary abstract oil painting is now signed and completed after weeks on the easel. It is on a gallery wrap canvas, so no frame is needed. The collector who now owns this painting lives in Connecticut. Thanks for viewing this blog!

Treasure Hunt - Original Abstract in Palette Knife by Nithya Swaminathan

My style has always been realism/loose realism but I had this sudden urge to try an abstract and this was the result. This painting is a departure from my usual style, and the first one that I painted with no reference at all. It was fun starting with something in mind and adapting as it progressed, because it was evolving to something else. I loved that factor of suspense that the abstract brought in.
