In this year's trip during July to the see the lavender we stayed in a small village called Banon. They had this lovely garden which was awash with hollyhocks and located up the hill wil a beautiful view. A peaceful place to sit and contemplate the view of the surrounding country side. See my previous post here.

Art Inspiration, Hollyhock public garden in Banon, by Marion Hedger

This public garden was reached by a steep path up to the church at Banon here we stayed overnight on our recent trip. The climb was well worth it to find this garden area in full bloom. Not only was it colourful, but the benches were positioned to give a wonderful view of the surrounding countryside.
Many of the village in this area were full of hollyhocks which seemed to be self-seeded and growing in no soil!
I have painted a small painting of this garden and blocked in a larger one. I am working up to do it as a larger painting still.

new introduction video is out (the part where I say howdy), and my
first two instructional videos are scheduled for production. Thank you
so much to those who have been waiting patiently for some time. You may
recall my first attempts at amateur filming in the studio, the
interesting interjection of unfortunate pug noises and the story of
Hubby as Director. (Okay married ladies, we all know that was a
hazardous role reversal). To make a long story short, if you want a job
done right, finished ahead of schedule, and completed on an exacting and
professional level, hire a woman!

Morning Sun Pink Hollyhocks is the daily newbie in Flower Mound Studio, a scene from my visit last month to the mountains of Utah. The girls and I were driving up a winding country lane when we spotted a massive garden of hollyhocks in every color your heart could desire, there were lipstick red, red wine black, pale pink, white, and hot pink. I whipped out my new IPad and went to town taking pictures, I love using my IPad for photography now, instead of lugging around my heavy Canon when I travel. I just slip my IPad into my purse, and off I go!
Morning Sun is my 25th entry in the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge, and I'm all packed and ready for my Tennessee workshop this weekend. SUH-Weet tea drinkers, here I come! Stay tuned to the art bloggy for pictures of my Tennessee flower painting workshop, you may see some familiar faces!

Red and Pink Hollyhock Tableau is based on an absolute dream of a hollyhock garden we stumbled upon near Oakley, Utah, just outside of Salt Lake City. A car full of lady artists, we made two U-turns in order to stop and get photos, because pretty flowers always take priority! I couldn't help but think back to years ago in Fredericksburg, Texas, driving around with the accomplished painter, Elaine Monnig, how we stopped about 85 times in one trip around the Willow City Loop because we just could not pass by a scene that begged to be photographed and later painted! Just one reason that traveling with gal pals is so fun!

Pink Hollyhocks was inspired by a Utah garden last week during a plein air painting trip to the mountains with girlfriends. What a fabulous week we had hiking along rivers and painting amidst the aspens. I didn't spot any bears this year, but we did see a moose and her baby one morning. She returned later the same evening much closer to our cabin, and I got a video of her I'll share in my next art newsletter! I'm told a mama moose can be very aggressive, so I was the first one back to the cabin when she made her encore appearance.
Painting in the mountain air!
