Original oil painting - Two Wild and Free - fine art by Karen Tarlton

(Close up of painting so you can see the texture!)

Two Wild and Free
24x36
Oil

This painting is brand new and very wet.  It will likely take weeks to dry because it is heavy with oil paint and extreme texture and I loved every moment painting these creatures!

A horse is the projection of peoples' dreams about themselves--strong, powerful, beautiful--and it has the capability of giving us escape from our mundane existence.
- Pam Brown

A horse gallops with his lungs,
Perseveres with his heart,
And wins with his character.
- Tesio

EQUINE VALUE STUDY by OLGA WAGNER

I painted this painting as part of the DPW Challenge where we were asked to paint using only 4 values. See the bottom image for the value study. After, I was done with the challenge, I added just a few strokes of Cad Red Light... This girls needs a little COLOR in her paintings!

This one was done mostly with brushes. Palette knife was used for the final few applications of paint.

“Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.  But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.” James 3:15-17

Through the Fall Foliage Equine Art Painted Pony Pull Horizon Horses Oil Painting by Texas Contemporary Artist Laurie Pace

'Through the Fall Foliage'
24 x 36  Oil on Canvas

A Rare Treat... one of my horizon Painted Pony Pulls.
I have limited the number I paint every year to keep them more collectible.
Other artists attempt to imitate the approach,  but if you ever seen one of mine in  person you realize
there is no comparison in the technique and the paints.
This is a developed style that I have worked on since 2006.
Read more about it on my website, the History of the Painted Pony.

Once In a Blue Moon by Kay Wyne

Once In a Blue Moon - SOLD!
16" x 20" Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Oil Painting

Once in a Blue Moon ... a phrase that we have all heard. This was a topic of conversation in the Wyne house lately....it is a common way of saying not very often, but what exactly is a Blue Moon? It is the second Full Moon to occur in a single calendar month. That occurred last December, when we had a Full Moon on the 2nd and the 31st. According to the experts, there will be 41 months that have two Full Moons in every century, so you could say that once in a Blue Moon actually means once every two-and-a-half years.

Once in a Blue Moon is also a title for lyrics to songs....like the Van Morrison song....
Once in a blue moon
Something good comes along
Once in a blue moon
Everything's not going wrong
When you get weary
Beating on the same old gong
Once in a blue moon
Someone like you comes along
When I started the above painting, I had a collage look going, starting with the words, Once in a Blue Moon painted on the canvas several times. If you look closely you can see them under the layers of paint. You can also see two images of horses, geometric figures and layers of paint along with oil crayons. I used the palette knife and brushes on this one. There is alot of movement in the painting and the eye jumps from one shape to the next shape. This contemporary abstract oil painting is now signed and completed after weeks on the easel. It is on a gallery wrap canvas, so no frame is needed. The collector who now owns this painting lives in Connecticut. Thanks for viewing this blog!
