SOLD ~ Jubilee Sunflowers and a North Texas Workshop by Nancy Medina

Class Demonstration

SOLD

Sunflower Jubilee was my class demonstration this morning for students from Louisiana, Ohio, and all parts of Texas. I had quite a contingent from Louisiana, as well as ladies from other states, who all shared one thing in common - a love for bright color! Using fresh flowers, students used broad strokes to create loose, fresh sunflowers on a bed of transparent paint. Transparents are such a great way to push floral colors to their absolute brightest. Tomorrow we paint white hydrangeas, stay tuned to my art blog for more pictures to come!

Daisy Delight and a Hidden Message by Floral Artist Nancy Medina

 Daisy Delight by Nancy Medina

Oil on Archival Panel

Daisy Delight is the newest daily work in Flower Mound Studio, as I finish up the pots in my new container garden commission. I have hidden a message under my daisies today, visit my art blog to see what lies beneath! I almost did not add the polka dots on my red mug, but decided at the last minute that this painting needed just a dash of fun. Daisies are such simple, frivolous flowers, if there is a word that describes them, I think delightful seems to fit them best.

Morning Sunnies is the newest daily painting in Flower Mound Studio. It's been a busy week, shipping paintings, running pug-related errands (special foods, medications, two new toys for her majesty, etc) and I had a very cool first - my first royalty check arrived! *sound of trumpets* It's not absolutely huge, but it is kind of cool knowing my work is out there, starting to reach markets around the world. Is this what they call passive income? I like the idea of that, don't you? I kind of picture myself sitting in a lounge chair with a glass of iced lemon aid, wearing a big hat and reading a Danielle Steele novel....! Actually, the first time I've sat down today was to write this blog post. It's true that when you own your own business, work never stops. Fortunately, I absolutely love my job!

Orange Julius Parrot Tulips is the daily newbie in Flower Mound Studio, a bit of color gone wild after several days of work on terra cotta pots and flowers for a new commission. I worked until midnight last night, the call of color was just too much to resist!

It was a blazing hot summer day, so the boss allowed me to take a mid-afternoon studio break to whip up some Cool Whip Cookies. She got to lick the spoon. I found the recipe through a friend on Facebook, and its's a great snack for youngsters who like to help in the kitchen. Read more...

I've been working on a new four-foot container garden, a commission for a client in Florida. As soon as I get a bit more done, I'll share it with you, step by step. I took a break today to deliver art to the summer show for the Trinity Arts Guild in Bedford, Texas this afternoon, delivering hydrangeas, sunflowers, and a big ole poppy painting! Stop by the gallery there if you have time, there are dozens of great paintings by Texas artists on display.
