Impressionist Garden Art, Summer Essence, oil painting by Marion Hedger

Summer Essence by Marion Hedger
24x30cm (approx. 10x12") on MDF canvas panel
Oil painting using palette knife

This is the finished painting from yesterday's inspiration.

OH the joys of photshop elements !!! First it kept crashing. Then adjusting the colours UGH. It seems that you adjust one to get it just right and it throws the other colours off. My camera always seems to have trouble with the blues.  and in trying to adjust the photo the pink roses have lost there brightness.

This close-up shows them much better.

Plein Air Poppies by Ann McCann 5 X 7 Oil

I am finally finishing the paintings I started on my wild flower tour of South Texas in April. These are poppies I painted while standing in a field of them at the Wild Seed Farm in Fredericksburg, TX. What an amazing site, a field of red poppies blowing in the wind.

Abstract Seascape | Daily Painting | "Tropical Blues" by Carol Schiff | 6x8" Oil SOLD

Living close to the sea, I find it turns up in my painting in both a representative and non-representative form.  I guess this little daily painting falls somewhere between the two.

SOLD

I painted this with a palette knife.  I like texture and feel it adds additional interest to my art.  I was thinking about the beautiful greens and blues of the tropical waters off the coast of Florida.  Further south they turn the most amazing shades of azure, but that will be another painting.

I almost always show my paintings in black frames.  It would be hard to find an artwork that would not work well with black and it just makes the colors pop.

Garden Flowers Inspiration by Marion Hedger

Work in progress, crop by Marion Hedger

April until June is the nicest time in my garden - first the daffodils start nodding their heads, quickly followed by the early irises and tulips. After tulips come the poppies and then the bearded irises. The colours range from the yellows of the daffs, the reds of the tulips and poppies, through to the purples and blues of the irises.

At the moment, the pinks and reds in the form of climbing roses are taking center stage and I took these snaps for my current painting inspiration.

The top image a teaser for the pink rose painting I am working on at the moment. It's nearly finished so all will be revealed tomorrow.

I have been on quite a flower painting jag lately, and still have more to come.  I spent the month of April in the Blue Ridge Mountains, and was inspired by the beautiful show from Mother Nature.  Flowers were everywhere, especially the trees and bushes.

Now that I am home again, I cannot stop looking at my stash of photos and painting flowers every day.

Yesterday, I went to Bok tower, here in Florida, with my paint buddies, and got inspired all over again.  Miles of beautiful gardens!

New Orleans French Quarter romance palette knife fine art impressionism by Karen Tarlton

Remembering love and honoring loved ones lost this memorial day.
So many people have sacrificed so much
and served us and our country with such incredible integrity.
When I paint, I think of so many things, but sometimes it's just
about remembering.
As a military spouse I feel such a bond with my fellow military and they are all family to me.
I have so many friends and family members that love New Orleans so here is the latest.

"The Core of My Soul" by Lynda Cookson

I absolutely love abstract work ... but it's not often that I post it. My love of flowers usually takes over! So, here for a change, is an abstract oil, with a touch of gold acrylic, on board called "The Core of My Soul". I wanted it to be complex yet simple when you reach the centre.

For sale HERE or click the image or its title.

Tropical Landscape Painting, Daily Painting, "Golden Palm" by Carol Schiff, 16x20" Oil, SOLD

I was going through some of my old files, and found this tropical Landscape painting that I did several years ago.  I was in morning light, in an area covered with palmettos.  I was fascinated by the play of light on the palm fronds, forming beautiful abstract shapes.

Henry by Chrys Wilson

Meet Henry.  Henry is a Virginia Cardinal that developed a warmth for me and learned to let me know when the feeder was empty.....very smart bird.  He would peck on the glass of the storm door until I noticed and filled the feeder.  Not sure how much personality birds can have, but this one had personality plus.  I relocated, but still I know that Henry is somewhere in the buffer trees and bushes singing and leading and finding a way to have the feeder filled when empty.
I hope you enjoy him.

Horse Portrait, "Big Red" 6x8" Oil, SOLD

I have been trying to expand my horizons by painting new subject matter.  This is my second horse painting.

SOLD
I have to say I did enjoy the challenge.  He looked so spirited and I got excited about his red coat against a green background.

It's always fun to stretch a little, try something new.  I would like to do more of these, but I think my biggest challenge will be getting interesting reference images to work from. We have plenty of horses in our neighborhood, but they usually run to the other end of the pasture when they see me approach with my trusty camera.

Do you have any special techniques for getting images of animals?

"The Glory of Irises" by Lynda Cookson

I haven't been able to paint for a while but am thoroughly enjoying going back into the past. I do hope that when I can pick up a palette knife or brush again that a way more fresh style will emerge ... but in the meantime, here's "The Glory of Irises" for sale HERE or click the image or its title.

The Joy of Being an Artist

Way back last year, I received an e-mail from young boy in Cleveland who was working on an art project.  His assignment was to interview an artist and do a powerpoint presentation.  He asked me a few general questions about my art.  This phone painting is what interested him.

8x10" oil
SOLD
I am sure many of you receive the same type of requests.  I have had several, from young students.  I always reply, trying to  answer their inquiries, without doing ALL the work for their report.  Occasionally, I will get a "thank you" in return, often nothing.

This young boy from Cleveland, Jake, is not the usual.  We had several exchanges.  He was always extremely polite , and always promised to send me reports.  And he did!  He sent me an outline of his presentation, then I got a video of him giving it.  My favorite question from his audience was "is she still alive?", which he answered with a resounding "yes"...Whew!

My children and grandchildren were excited and thrilled to see all this activity about me in Cleveland.

After a few weeks, he sent me his grade (he aced it) on the project, and I though we were through.  But no....  He also has to do a painting that emulates my work.

Jake's painting
This is my second update on his painting in progress.  Note the picture of my phone, there on the table.

And here  is the finished piece!  Didn't he do well!!?!!

I am thrilled, each time I hear from him.  This has been such an  exciting experience for me and hopefully for him too.  I now understand why people choose to teach, and, what a wonderful teacher he has.  He or she has set him on a road that will stay with him for life. What a fantastic project for a young mind.   Bravo!!

So, for me, painting has been so much more than just painting.  Today, I have a new energy and desire to get back to the easel....how lucky am I?  Thank you Jake!
