Horse Portrait, "Big Red" 6x8" Oil, SOLD

I have been trying to expand my horizons by painting new subject matter.  This is my second horse painting.

SOLD
I have to say I did enjoy the challenge.  He looked so spirited and I got excited about his red coat against a green background.

It's always fun to stretch a little, try something new.  I would like to do more of these, but I think my biggest challenge will be getting interesting reference images to work from. We have plenty of horses in our neighborhood, but they usually run to the other end of the pasture when they see me approach with my trusty camera.

Do you have any special techniques for getting images of animals?

DRAMATIC PALETTE KNIFE EQUINE PAINTING by OLGA WAGNER

This BIG boy is rather striking and looks very dramatic on the wall. Once fully dry, I will be hanging this one at the Focal Point Gallery in Chapel Hill.

WHITE DRESSAGE STALLION in PALETTE KNIFE by OLGA WAGNER

I had another 16x20 canvas that was ready to..Actually, it was a failed painting from few months ago, that made for a perfect surface to work on using palette knives. The hardest part of this painting was deciding on the color combo for the background. Originally, I was going for something with more drama, but in the end I decided on this eye pleasing combo.

Mama's Girl by Pamela Blaies

Mare with Filly
14" x 11" Oil on Canvas
For more information on this painting click here.

Daisy May is an enchanting little mustang colt recently born on my parents farm. She's curious about me when I come around with my camera, but so shy she won't let me get near. I captured this scene by accident as I was trying to get a close-up and the mare's tail swished right over the little filly. She seems to be playing a delightful game of "peek-a-boo" with me.
