Daily Paintings, Small Oil Paintings, Animal and Bird Paintings
I was looking at some of my images and was really surprised to see how many bird and animal paintings I have done. I thought today would be a good day to post a few of my old time favorites.
It is always interesting and educational to review the painting journey that you have been on. I like to line up older paintings, chronologically, which helps me to see the improvements I have made and the ones I would like to make in the future. Always an interesting exercise.

30 paintings in 30 days challenge I am doing with fellow artist Leslie Saeta.
It is a little study for a larger painting.
So here is my theme for the challenge this year......This past year I redecorated my dining room, and collected artwork in various styles by my favorite artists from around the world, but all in a similar color palette and the result was lovely.
Actually, it all began with a beautiful painting of a woman in a cafe that I purchased in Cortona, Italy, which became the focal point of the room.
I also collected two still life pieces, an impressionist landscape, a floral piece, and an abstract expressionism piece, all in a similar palette.
That is my inspiration for this challenge. Each week, I will choose a palette and complete 7 paintings of multiple styles within that palette.
I will try to create pieces that would exhibit beautifully together , but can also stand alone.
We shall see what shows up!!

Though my style remains quite diverse, I believe I have the heart of an Abstract Expressionist, or even more accurately, an Action Expressionist, as I am most definitely an "action painter". Each painting is a journey , dictated by primarily by my current thoughts and emotions, be they happy, sad, peaceful or frenzied.It is a mysterious relationship, and is thrilling when the painting finally reveals itself, and our private journey becomes a story to share.
Hookers and Boats by Lynda Cookson
From my years living in the West of Ireland, it was always so special to spot a Galway Hooker plying the waves, often between the Aran Islands off Galway and into Galway Bay. I believe there is still at least one enthusiast still making and restoring Hookers.
Years ago, in the area we lived in (Connemara) the Hookers would be used to ferry turf (peat) and supplies from the mainland to islands like the three Aran Islands. I watched a video once of an old movie made whilst towing a horse across the bay between the islands and Galway. I didn't much like that, feeling awful for the poor horse, but those days were much harder than now, in that respect, so perhaps I shouldn't judge!
I've popped in a couple of watercolours of boats amongst the Hooker paintings below.

I used a cross (one of my favorites) composition and split complementary colors of blue, purple and orange to achieve a nice glow. I painted with a knife to get even more texture and very subtle color changes.

I was always fairly mystified about the process of painting an abstract, but I am finding that it is much like any other artwork. You must have a composition, a point of interest, color interaction and contrast.

I was at a bit of a loss what to do today, I was determined to somehow
include some leaves I had made. As you can see, that didn't happen.
I've spent a lot of time creating plaster stones and mediallions,
painting foil, air dried clay leaves and painting corrugated cardoard.
I've painted everything in colour families and hoped that I could then
'just' assemble them when I had an idea. Well... I've discovered that I
can't work like that! I knew this of course, but I had the mistaken

Today I am posting one of my favorite subjects, the beach!
In my opinion, one of the best reasons to live in Florida, is to be able to grab a cup of coffee, and head for the beach to see the sunrise.
The beach is usually empty....maybe I will see a lone fisherman. For the most part, only the birds are there to keep you company. It is so serene and calming. The perfect way to start your day. I cannot think of a better way to spend an early morning hour.

| SOLD Roses have always been difficult for me. This time I tried to channel Elio. I was determined not to describe each petal, I did my best to remember the softness and translucency of a rose petal. I wanted to pop the colors, but, not too much. Finally, I made myself stop! Yes, I like this one.....and I hope you do too. |

Actually, the images only had five ducks. One of the ducks had gone to ducky heaven and she wanted to include him (her) too. I liked this image because all the ducks were looking in one direction. I added the missing duck on the end, as though he had reappeared and the others were greeting him back into the flock.
If you relate to the missing duck...I hope you find your flock soon :)

Florida Landscape | Small Oil Painting | Daily Painting | Palm Grove by Carol Schiff | 8x6" Oil | SOLD
I was on a photo shoot one late afternoon, walking though wetlands and knee high grasses. I was getting a little anxious as the wildlife and creepy crawlies get more active as the sun goes down. When I came home, I found several reference photos that I was interested in painting, which made it all worth while.
I liked the way the early evening light was hitting these palms, turning them from gray to gold. This is a little study for a much larger piece that I am interested in trying. Hopefully, I can get to it soon.

I feel I am in a bit of a rut with my art and I have hit a plateau and
so loosing inspiration to paint. To kick start myself again the
challenge has given me the impetus to try something different.
I like doing different things and often get bored of doing the same
thing, not that my palette knife painting is always the same but the
techniques are. With the challenge I have given myself permission to

by Leslie Saeta. I have a love/hate relationship with these challenges -
I like to see the new body of works at the end and making sure I get
into the studio each day but the self-inflicted stress well... it is not
