Day 2 of January 30 paintings challenge by Marion Hedger

Day 2 of January 30 paintings challenge by Marion Hedger
Provence Expressions
Palette knife painting
Oil on canvas board
18x24 cm (approx 7"x10")
Available for purchase $100, international shipping included
Take a look at Marion's art website

This is another painting 'I made earlier'. It is more expressionist than impressionist and, of course, full of colour. I am still finding realism tugging at me when I paint, so I deliberately tried to push the colours. The scene is from a combination of photos, with the typical trees and shed that define the landscape.

4 x 6 feet Oil on Canvas. SOLD

You can see there was quite a bit of progress as the bottom half of the painting began to establish it's own defined pattern. I know from this the top will be reworked. It does not fit the flow that has manifested at the bottom of this horse painting.

"Treehouse" Original Oil Palette Knife Painting by Hallie Kohn Art

My boys and I were playing out in the snow the other day, and I looked up and noticed this beautiful shadow on the front of our house. The morning sun was shining golden, with all of these amazing purple shadows of the tree and their footprints all over the yard... It took my breath away.

I worked longer adding more layers to the little girl's face to bring up the highlights and recess the shadows around her eyes and forehead. In the picture it was noted the strength in the legs of the horse with this jump and the left leg was a 'white sock'

Impulse by Kay Wyne

<
Impulse
18" x 18" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract Painting
I started this painting on impulse....just to throw
paint on the canvas after working on commissions
during the month of December.  My studio mates
have asked me what it is, and I honestly don't know.

One of my fellow artists said it looked like cactus,
another said flowers, and the one that makes
the most sense to me was the aerial view of
a golf course. I was working with Sharon's
piles of paint since they were going to go to
waste and dry up.  It felt good to just stand in
front of the easel and paint for the sake of
painting. The colors and shapes were put on
the canvas...hopefully to make an interesting
canvas that will bring a smile to your face!

This is painting #2 in the
I will be back in the studio today working
on painting #3!  Thanks, Kay

My Joy of Colour blog
I have just returned from spending the holidays with my family in the UK. I thought I might be able to pull something together tonight, but as usual for this time of year I have picked up a virus and I am feeling sorry for myself. So I am cheating and posting this chrysanthemum still life painting that was part of the November Wetcanvas.com floral and botanical forum challenge. It does fit, more or less, into the challenge to my self this month, to push my painting style further.

FIRST PLEIN AIR PAINTING OF 2014 by TOM BROWN, 8x10 INCH ORIGINAL OIL

Life can offer surprises when you least expect it. On New Year’s Day I always like to get outside early and paint whatever catches my eye for my first plein air painting of the New Year.

I recalled a scenic vista where I had painted long ago, but when I arrived this time it had vanished. It is about to become a housing development. The land has been cleared and graded; the pristine scenery has been destroyed.

But I saw possibilities in what remained. The lighting and interplay of color and shapes caught my eye and seemed to have promise.

I recalled the old saying about lemons and decided to see what I could do with this. I was quite pleased with the results. I guess beauty can be found everywhere if only we look for it. I think that should be my motto for the New Year; find the beauty everywhere.

I wish you a Beautiful New Year filled with pleasant surprises.

Thanks for looking.
Tom Brown

"China" Original Oil Palette Knife Painting by Hallie Kohn Art

This month I am participating in a 30 days of painting challenge through a wonderful artist that I took a workshop with last March called Leslie Saeta. There are hundreds of artists participating; it will be awesome to see all of the entries each day!

This painting was commissioned as a Christmas gift. The recipient took the photo while on vacation in China, and I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to paint it. I am so drawn to structures like this, although it was definitely a challenge!

I painted most of this painting from a blurred image so I wouldn't become too overwhelmed in the details. Later I went back and added in the individual posts and rails; this was so helpful. I will have to say that it is paintings like this that help grow one's confidence and push us as artists.

8x10 Oil Palette Knife Painting

Forward by Kay Wyne

Forward
20" x 20" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract Painting
Day 1 in the 30 Paintings/30 Days Challenge
This palette knife painting evolved with some wonderful
colors from Sharon's loaded palette.  She left town and I
couldn't leave the piles of paint sitting in the studio just to
dry up.  So I got my palette knife out and started scraping
her glass palette, putting the juicy oils on my canvas.
Since today is New Years, I titled it "Forward"....I am
looking forward to 2014.  This is also painting #1 in the
30 Day challenge.....Happy New Year!  Kay
