Abstract Mixed Media, "All In A Row" 4x12" Original SOLD

I find myself being drawn more and more to the abstract and mixed media area of art.  In May I attended a wonderful workshop given by Carol Nelson.  She fueled my desire with her creative techniques and materials.  Since then, I have been trying to develop my own techniques.

I included some of Carol's techniques and some of my own.  I like this piece in both a horizontal format or in a vertical format.  The sides are painted and do not require framing.

It can hang on the wall or sit on a shelf.  It has just a touch of gold leaf to capture the light.
I have to admit.......I really enjoyed creating this.

Every once in a while I have to try something abstract.  This one is all about texture and the red under painting.

I mixed sand from the beach into the gesso.

It's always fun to experiment, especially when I start to take my painting a little too seriously.

Palette Knife Still Life Painting, "Vase and Pears" 10x10"

I painted this a few weeks ago at the Student Artist's Guild.  My paint group meets there every Monday morning.  It's in a very large loft area that is equiped with easels, many windows, props, stages for models and any kind of music you may want to hear.  It's really like an artist's dream come true!

On this day, I came equiped with three pears and was arranging lights to get the best shadows etc, when I spotted this large ceramic jar.  I was not too inspired by the pears, but the jar got me excited.
It's not always easy being creative.....

Well, what can I say?  Throw a couple strawberries on a windowsill, the light streams in....it's a done deal.  Carol is going to paint it.

I have just returned from spending the holidays with my family in the UK. I thought I might be able to pull something together tonight, but as usual for this time of year I have picked up a virus and I am feeling sorry for myself. So I am cheating and posting this chrysanthemum still life painting that was part of the November Wetcanvas.com floral and botanical forum challenge. It does fit, more or less, into the challenge to my self this month, to push my painting style further.

This painting is a bonus. Every year I buy several hanging baskets in the spring, like most of us do, of course. The petunias last until about the middle of August and then just seem to fade. 

I put this pot of petunias at the back of the garden (I hate throwing away any sort of plant). Early this week I saw that it had sprung back to life and the petunias were so nice and bright. I placed them on a ledge to admire them and then a shaft of sunlight hit them lighting them up nicely. Of course I had to paint them - hence the title.

Sherwood Pines

At the end of May this year, we went to Sherwood Pines park in Nottingham my home town. While my brother and the kids did the bicycle circuit, I went for a walk and took photos.

Sherwood Pines is a managed pine plantation right in the heart of Sherwood Forest (quel domage) where they used to grow the pines for pit props in the coal mines. That industry has now died and they are gradually replacing the trees with native species.

My Walk

Naturally it was the regenerated part of the forest where I went for my walk. The sun was shining through the fresh green growth of trees and all was OK in my world.

Does it need people?

I am uncertain whether or not to put a couple in at the end of the path to:

• add a focal point and scale
• To add a touch of red (a shirt maybe) as a foil for all the green
