Stormy Sea By Sarah Morley - sold when still wet! But commissions welcome

I did this painting after I had finished tutoring my Friday knife painting classes, only about 3 weeks ago. It was great to get some large knives out and really let rip! It is painted mainly in Prussian Blue, white with some pale turquoise and dark violet. I was really pleased with how well the spray came up. I think the secret of this was that I also used  Griffin Alkyd White, which is a fast drying white oil paint. This is a different texture from the usual slow drying oil paint.

The painting was on the easel a week later, still wet when we had our open studios event and it sold! Missing it already! If anyone would like a similar painting - maybe as a Christmas present?  - please contact me.

Below is another of my seascapes - again sold! They do not stay with me for very long.

Copper Fountains, New Contemporary Landscape Painting by Sheri Jones

Copper Fountain
8x8 oil on canvas panel

I created this during the Hidden Garden's Tour in Ft. Worth. It is such an honor to paint in these exclusive gardens. It turned into a beautiful day weather wise. We have had so much rain lately, but dodge it that day.  These beautiful copper fountains had weathered and were a rich array of color.  Sold

"Falling Rocks" Textured Colorado oil painting by Niki Gulley

“Falling Rocks” ©2013 Niki Gulley
20" x 24” textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

This painting is inspired from my first trip to Colorado. I loved the majestic mountains, the meandering creeks and rushing rivers, the lush terrain and the quaking aspen trees. The ride through the mountains was thrilling, as we straddled cliff sides, our tires gripped the road through spine-tingling hairpin turns, we raced through cavernous tunnels carved through the dense rock, and jagged mountains hugged us like there was no tomorrow. And, as if the journey wasn't exciting enough, we were reminded of the  adventure that lay ahead with a new falling rocks sign every few bends!

"Traversing Splendor" - New textured oil painting by Niki Gulley

"Traversing Splendor" ©2012 Niki Gulley
48" x 60" textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

I wanted you to feel the joy and peacefulness of walking through the forest ablaze with color on a beautiful autumn day. With soft light illuminating the walkway and the distance sparkling in golden light, the only sounds to be heard are the crunching of fallen leaves underfoot and a slight breeze flickering the leaves overhead. What lies ahead? The mysterious glow from beyond beckons you forward.

"Colorful Transformation" textured birch tree painting by Niki Gulley

"Colorful Transformation" ©2011 Niki Gulley
36" x 48" textured oil on canvas

Rather than create an exact replica of the forest, I wanted to focus on brilliant color and simple shapes to see if I could communicate the excitement I feel when surrounded by nature. Using energetic diagonal strokes and thick, textured paint, I hope you get a sense of the motion in the leaves and the power of nature to invigorate your spirit. I just love how this piece captured that essence!

To see more of Niki Gulley’s landscape paintings, please stop by her booth at the Broad Ripple Art Fair in Indianapolis, IN this weekend – indplsartcenter.org/braf/.
