Daisies - Original floral by Nithya Swaminathan

Among all subjects to paint with the knife, flowers are undoubtedly my favorite. By a mile. It's been a while since I painted them, as all my new work has been figurative. So I wanted to paint one for the sheer joy of it.:) And it tells me that spring is almost there.:)

Sand Castles - Palette Knife figurative painting by Nithya Swaminathan

This week's challenge at Daily Paintworks is a fund raiser for the cause of Japan, with the theme being "Home".  Home is where the heart is, and to me, it is always in Madras, South India. That's the city that I grew up in and the one that is closest to my heart. It being a coastal city, the first image that comes to my mind when I hear "home" is undoubtedly the beach.

The beach has been an integral part of our lives and no trip to Madras is complete without a visit to the beach. Since we are a tropical city, the water is always warm and soothing and I simply LOVE standing at the shores with the waves lapping up my feet. I can sit there for hours together and just keep watching the waves, which I mentioned in my painting "Wave watching" too.

This painting is a precious memory from my childhood. This painting is done with the palette knife and is textured. I have uploaded a hi-res image at the DPW site and you can zoom in to see the details. This feature is really cool! You can see the texture generated by the palette knife.

I hope you like the piece. Bidding starts at $50 and I ship worldwide. Please spread the word.

Orientation Program - Original Acrylic Figurative Painting

I loved this bonding moment between the mom and the child that I just had to paint it. And it was a good change in palette from the reds that usually feature in my work. I hope you like it too!

Surrender - Original Textured Painting by Nithya Swaminathan

I've been very sporadic of late, mainly due to a lot of work pressure! I have been painting pretty regularly, but not managing the time to blog. I hope to be a lot more regular going forward.:)

This painting is a also part of my ongoing series "summer observations", a series inspired by the European Summer. This whole series captured the spirit of summer in this part of the world, and consists of people enjoying the sunshine to the fullest.

An afternoon in Venice - Make an offer on this palette knife oil painting

This painting is a cityscape from Venice. Though Venice reminds everyone of water, the islands are equally beautiful too with colorful and charming buildings. This picture is from one of the islands from my last visit there.

This painting is my "Make an offer" painting for January 2011, and the offer starts at $60. It is currently available only from me and if it is not sold by the end of the month, will be listed in my store. I took to oils after a long time with this painting, oils with the palette knife at that. All my recent work has been Acrylic and it was awesome getting the feel of oils after a long long time.
