Purple Haze, Modern Palette Knife Landscapes and Seascapes by Janet Bludau

Day 13 of our 30 Day Challenge
Purple Haze
9" x 12"
Acrylic on unstretched canvas
Back on a good painting roll.  I really enjoyed my studio time yesterday and am pleased with this painting and the next two I am almost finished with.  I had to make myself stop yesterday.  I had also promised myself garden time:  a bit of cleanup, tending to the compost bin and planting two little lime green ??  by a small fountain.

Granite Beach by Janet Bludau, Abstract Landscapes and Seascapes, Palette Knife Paintings

Day 5 of the 30 Day Challenge
If I do say so myself I am quite impressed that I have made it this far.
I need to step it up though as I know I have days coming up where painting will be impossible.
The solution is to paint double, triple, another day.
AND, don't be painting large paintings.
BUT, what if you have a large commission to get done also?
Namaste, Mellow Out, Gzzz

Granite Beach measures 12" x 24", Oil and is painted on thick Gallery Wrapped Canvas
Bits of red underpainting show through

Red Country Hills, Willamette Valley, Oregon - Abstract Palette Knife Landscape by California Janet Bludau

16" x 20"
Oil on Canvas
Framed in a simple, contemporary floater frame or unframed

Red Country Hills is a painting that developed over time - very typical of the way I like to paint.  First, I painted my canvas solid red.  I then lightly sketched a rough drawing, placing the larger areas where I wanted them and deciding on the scale for the barn and trees.  My image was a photo I had taken in the countryside just outside of Eugene, Oregon where my daughter was finishing up college.  This beautiful scene is located in the wine country of Willamette Valley.
Next, color was started, being careful to save bits of my red undercoat.  It is a push and pull process, sometimes scraping back a color that I am disappointed with and trying other options.  My favorite "part" of the painting is the light turquoise layer that runs under the trees and barn structures.  This was applied using the side of a palette knife and dragging the paint over and down the earlier layers.
