Daily Oil Painting, Birds, "Waverunners" 12x12" SOLD

These birds were my constant companions on early morning walks on the beaches of Sanibel.

SOLD

After 40+ years of seeing the sun rise over the Atlantic, it seemed odd to see it rise from behind the dunes at the Gulf of Mexico.

I used both brush and palette knife on this one.  I like the contrast of texture achieved in this way.

The birds ignored me and my camera, knowing they could move much faster then I can.

Daily Painting, "Waves", Seascape, 6x8", Oil, SOLD

I enjoy trying to capture the feel of the surf rushing to shore on my canvas.

The ocean seems to have a different character and color each time I visit.  This is the east coast of Florida, while California is much more rugged and has a deep rich blue hue.

I like to use my daily paintings very informally in my home.  Just prop them up where ever the mood strikes! No frame necessary!

Daily Painting, "Atlantic Seascape", 8x10" SOLD

Who does not love the sea? The beach is a place of healing and joy. The salt cleanses us and the sun embraces us in its warmth. The ocean heals the heart, mind, and soul.

SOLD
I have two loves, the sea and the mountains.  They both have their own beauty and are ever changing.  They both bring peace to my life.

I hope you find your own little slice of heaven this weekend.

ANOTHER SEASCAPE, OIL, 5X7

I really enjoy doing these small seascapes. Fortunately, with the Atlantic nearby, I have a never ending source of new compositions. This one, I call impressionistic, bordering on abstract. What fun!

"Maui Beach: Surf and Clouds" by Karla Nolan, unframed miniature palette knife oil painting

My husband and I traveled to Hawaii some years ago and stayed on the island of Maui.  There is just nothing in the world more soothing to me than the pounding of the ocean as the waves crash heading to the shore.  When I painted this miniature, my travel memories kicked in and there I was, lying on the beach once again, blissed out by the incredible sounds.  Ah, gotta love the ocean!  (I am, of course, landlocked in my own paradise, but painting revives the good memories...)

"Ocean Waves" by Karla Nolan, framed painting on glass

The ocean never fails to fascinate me.  Being landlocked in Colorado, but happily so, I especially like looking at the waves breaking and the skies overhead.  It can be turmoil to paint, but, hey, why not give it a try, onto glass, no less!

"Ocean Waves", 5"x7" painting on glass (measured edge to edge glass) in frame shown, $125 includes s/h in continental U.S., Paypal accepted, click button located on my blogspot below or write me for more information at KarlaNolan@gmail.com

"Sand and Surf at Second Beach (RI)" by Karla Nolan

I have a dear friend who lives in Middletown, Rhode Island, right next to Newport.  She is so fortunate to have a house right around the corner from this particular beach, "Second Beach".  Am I envious?  You bet I am!  Every day she can go to the beach and listen to the pounding surf, view the changing skies, the ebb and flow of the waters.  There are fewer experiences more soothing than the sound and feel of the ocean.  I think I'm due for another visit!

Beach Frolic by Roxanne Steed

Available for purchase from my website.

8"x10" oil on linen mounted on archival panel

I'm enjoying my visit with my artist friend Norma Wilson, down here in Virginia Beach.  While it's still too cold to get in the ocean without a wetsuit, I'm remembering days of summer past with children playing in the surf and sand.  That's just one of the things I miss from when I lived down here.   Thank you to Claudia Finn for the great photo reference who joined us painting today!

SEA SHORE, SURF, TOM BROWN PLEIN AIR LANDSCAPE

A warm glow in the distant sky was reflected across the water and onto the shimmering sands. I wanted to capture that effect, and also the glow of light coming through the breaking wave. This one was a joy to paint; I hope you like it.

“DOING THE WAVE” is a 6x8 inch original plein air oil painting I’ve put on eBay with a very low starting bid. If you like it, place a bid now before I change my mind. (I can’t raise the starting bid once a bid has been placed.) Click here to bid:

OCEAN, SURF, WAVES BY TOM BROWN

“ON THE ROCKS”
6x6 inch original oil painting
by Tom Brown

The thundering surf pounding against craggy rocks caught my attention. In addition, the brilliant sun dancing across the waves and deep shadows in the foreground made this one irresistible.

SURF, TOM BROWN PLEIN AIR

"DOING THE WAVE"
7x5 INCH ORIGINAL PLEIN AIR
PALETTE KNIFE PAINTING
BY TOM BROWN

I was recently asked what kind of music I listen to while painting. While doing this wave my “music” was the roar and crash of ocean surf, the cries of gulls circling overhead and the sounds of breeze among palm fronds.

I like to stay totally focused while painting rather than just playing mindless background noise. The sounds of nature are my music at times like this. They help me connect with what I’m painting.

But when I listen to music, I really listen. Maybe chill with a good glass of wine and become totally immersed in it. Among my favorites are some you may not expect, like Pete Fountain, Leon Redbone, Scott Joplin’s ragtime piano and Iz (Israel Ka’ano’I Kamakawiwo’ole). If any of these are new to you, check them out. You may have a treat in store.

Thanks for stopping by. Have a wonderful day. And if you’d like this painting for your home let me know: tombrownstudio@cox.net
