Lake Como Italy Reflections painting by Karen Tarlton fine art impressionism

I have a smaller (study) version of this one as well.
This place is lovely and so it deserves a large version.

"Dusk Near Lake Como, Italy" by Karla Nolan

We have had the good fortune to visit Italy in the last several years and this was the first time I had been so far north.  Previously I'd been to Tuscany and Umbria.  Fiametta and Piero were our bed and breakfast hosts and we were most spoiled by their breakfasts, the view from their terrace and garden, and of course, their delightful company.  The nearby ferries ran regularly to other towns, including Bellagio, so rather than drive all the way around the immense lake, we could just sort of hop around on the water!  It was an amazing trip, we found a favorite pizza place just down the hill and at dusk the water simply glowed with reflection.  Viva Italia!

"Solo Sail on Lake Como (Italy)"

Have you ever heard of "The Three Tenors"?  Of course you have!  Well, the other day I was hauling up recently painted canvases to put on the mantel over the fireplace so I could get a different view of them.  It occurred to me then -- I am frequently painting one of "The Three 'I's" -- Israel, Ireland, or Italy!  Go figure, these wonderful lands all start with the same initial, I find humor in that....

So....this a one view of Lake Como -- it is so beautiful in this part of Italy, the water just invites you to take a ride on it.  We took the ferry from town to town and I made use of my point and shoot camera for reference photos.  I specifically use a point and shoot, not an elaborate or expensive camera, so I can play the giant editor, just want to make sure I'm close to the geography or the play of the light in the sky, in the water.  From Italy to you, I bring you a short sail on the waters of Lago di Como!  Ciao!

"Solo Sail on Lake Como (Italy)", 12"x16" unframed palette knife and brush oil painting on canvas, $385 plus s/h to be determined at time of sale, Paypal button (click below) or write me for more info at KarlaNolan@gmail.com

Thank you for looking!

"Dusk on Lake Como" by Karla Nolan

Recently we traveled to Northern Italy and stayed at a B&B in Plesio, on Lake Como (Lago di Como in Italian, the most musical of languages).  I was quite surprised at the size of the lake, miles longer than I dreamed it would be.  My husband does all the research and makes the reservations for dwellings on our trips, I'm sort of like the little puppy dog, tagging along.  Mind you, I do make my special requests periodically, but I'm a perfectly happy camper with him lining things up.  Maybe I'm lazy.  Naaah!

Piero and Fiametta were the most wonderful, gracious hosts at their bed and breakfast.  This was our view from the front door of our one bedroom apartment.  It was breathtaking!  Piero also paints and Fiametta is an avid and enthusiastic cook.  We had the most splendid of times in Northern Italy, close to the Alps.  I hope I've done this one evening justice and conveyed to you the warmth of that special time.

Lake Como Sailing by Karen Tarlton Original oil painting impressionism

Lake Como Sailing
18x36
Oil
Inspired by our trip to Italy last summer, I was awestruck by the beauty of Italy and this amazing lake. Seeing this brilliant blue water, with its reflective villas and boats in the sun, just made me feel happy and I wanted you to experience that joy, too. In person “Lake Como Sailing” practically leaps off the canvas with its vibrant palette knife strokes and extremely thick three-dimensional paint.

Adult Art Classes with Niki Gulley

“Peaceful Harbor” ©2010 Niki Gulley
24” x 36” oil on canvas

Out of the 16 countries that I’ve visited, Lake Como, Italy is definitely one of my favorites places in the world. When we stepped off the train and wandered down to the water’s edge, my eyes started filling with tears being overwhelmed by the stunning scenery. Between the beautiful, peaceful lake, the awesome snow-capped alps in the distance, and the brightly colored stacked houses, we relished every minute we spent in this sleepy Lake Como town.

To see “Peaceful Harbor” in person along with my other most recent paintings, visit my booth #355 at the Gold Coast Art Show in Chicago, IL this weekend. For more information on the show, go to amdurproductions.com/f-goldcoast-public.html.
