Hummingbird Dance palette knife fine art impressionism by Karen Tarlton

My favorite bird is this little guy. He's agile and lightening fast, but delicate and beautiful too.
An amazing creature.  You have to use your imagination quite a bit when you paint them. When I watch them in my yard all I see is a brief blur of color and motion, and this is the energy I try to capture here.
Bold, expressive palette knife movements and energizing color

"Sphinx Hummingbird Moths" Original Oil Painting by Hallie Kohn Art

This is the second time I've painted this amazing memory, this time with brush. Two summers ago the hummingbird moths were all over our zinnias. We would sit and watch them and I was able to capture about 20 photos, tough to do since they move so fast!

"Rufous Hummingbird" Oil Palette Knife Painting by Hallie Kohn Art

I just love the colors on this tiny little hummingbird. Though they are very small, they are apparently pretty ruthless while pursuing nectar. Funny, I never think of hummingbirds as aggressive!

Original oil painting Hummingbird Dance by Karen Tarlton

All set up and back to painting some colorful animals!
I must be extremely right brained
because I love to paint with my left hand behind my back,
completely out of the way :)

Finished up the latest Longhorn which needs some time to dry.
But this one is ready!

Original oil painting Horse equine abstract and Hummingbird Dance by Karen Tarlton

Two brand new 6x6 Oil paintings!

I saw another a hummingbird today while I was trimming the salvia plant our new garden that has grown unruly. Always a good omen a hummingbird. I hesitated cutting the blossoms because the bird loves them but the bush was too large.
I bought tomatoes, strawberries, peas, peppers, a bunch of herbs and even a rasberry plant and I'll take some photos when I get them in the ground tomorrow.
I'm so excited about finally having a a spot to grow some vegies!

Hummingbird Dance Original oil painting by Karen Tarlton modern impressionist

Flowers and birds are two of my favorite things to paint, especially these agile hummingbirds. You have to use your imagination quite a bit when you paint them. When I watch them in my yard all I see is a brief blur of color and motion, and this is the energy I try to capture here.
Bold, expressive palette knife movements and energizing color!
