Coneflower Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 6x8" Oil on Panel

We spent the month of April in the Blue Ridge Mountains.  It was winter-like when we arrived on April 1st, but within days the trees were covered in blooms.  Flowering pear and crabapple, dogwood, lilac and forsythia were visible everywhere.  I did my little Florida heart good to experience such a spring.

It was too early for one of my favorites from the mountains....coneflowers (echinacea).  I had lots of images from previous trips and painted several based on this favorite flower.

Just a simple little painting, but it pleases me.

It's the small things in life that make it worth living.  This week, for me, it was enjoying a peacful trip to the mountains.

I hope you find your peace this week.

"Echinacea Quintet, Cheyenne Spirit", 7"x8" original watercolor painting by Karla Nolan

The end of summer/beginning of fall is an adventure in the flower garden.  I saw this Cheyenne Spirit echinacea at nearby Gardens On Spring Creek, an horticultural paradise in the center of Fort Collins, Colorado (which is the home of Colorado State University, known for the horticultural program at the college).  Every time I visit the Gardens I am inspired to paint and plant more.  We have many sorts of flowers in our own garden but it's hard to believe that so many other varieties would also grow for us.  It's change from sunny to shady in the back yard, the growth of the trees and bushes has been rampant but I have the great fortune of being able to walk through Spring Creek and learn even more about the floral kingdom.  So lucky!

"Cheyenne Spirit Echinacea (Coneflower)" by Karla Nolan

This is a simple painting -- there are a number of colors in the petals of this particular type of coneflower (Latin name:  echinacea) and I wanted the focus to be on the flower itself.  You might know of this plant for its alleged herbal effects, an immune system booster, used for centuries in naturopathy  It also grows well where we live and, I believe, this may be a hybrid of the traditional purple flower that is so well known.  There is a bit more color here, with more reds and oranges merging into the long petals.

"Cheyenne Spirit Echinacea (Coneflower)", 10"x8" unframed palette knife oil painting, $160 includes s/h in continental U.S., click Paypal button located on my blogspot below or write me at KarlaNolan@gmail.com for more information
