Daily Painting | Oil Landscape | Garden Painting | The Walk to Freedom by Carol Schiff | 24x30x1.5 Oil

A few months ago, I did a small study of this garden landscene, on Laura Plantation in southern Louisiana.  I have wanted to paint a larger version, but, life got in the way.  Finally, I  was able to finish this 24x30" piece.

It brings back memories of a trip I took to New Orleans last year.  We spent the day driving through the surrounding countryside and toured two plantations that bordered the Mississippi levy.

As you can imagine, the grounds were stunning, but I couldn't help but think of the slaves who toiled there.

I painted using both a brush and palette knife.  I love the texture a palette knife brings to a piece.  I think it adds so much interest.

"The Conversation" was my painting for Day #12 in the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge I am doing with fellow artist Leslie Saeta.

So here is my theme for the challenge this year......This past year I redecorated my dining room, and collected artwork in various styles by my favorite artists from around the world, but all in a similar color palette and the result was lovely.

Actually, it all began with a beautiful painting of a woman in a cafe that I purchased in Cortona, Italy, which became the focal point of the room.

I also collected two still life pieces, an impressionist landscape, a floral piece, and an abstract expressionism piece, all in a similar palette.

That is my inspiration for this challenge. Each week, I will choose a palette and complete 7 paintings of multiple styles within that palette.

I will try to create pieces that would exhibit beautifully together , but can also stand alone.
We shall see what shows up!!

I planted coneflower (echinacea) around my home in the Blue Ridge Mountains.  So...of course, I had to paint them too.

purchase here

I find them to be easy to grown, and cheerful, with their giant heads and quirky style.

I painted several coneflower paintings last summer, in many sizes and styles.  Somehow, this little one was overlooked and never posted.

I tried to keep it fresh and simple, painting with a large brush.  I also tried to keep the colors harmonized.

All in all, I feel good about the results.  Hope you like it too.

Have a blessed day!

A complete change of pace today. I found this forgotten abstract at the bottom of a drawer and I liked the way the shapes danced across the page. I had the idea I could change it to an autumn scene and call if falling leaves.

CHRISTMAS KITTY, 8X10, OIL, SOLD

My daughter-in-law is a big time animal advocate, so none of us were surprised a few years ago when she brought this little kitten home from her job at a local vets. office. The kitten was born to a feral cat. She fed it with an eyedropper and soon Frankie was spunky and ruled the roost. She also had a fascination with the Christmas tree and would climb it and bat at the glass balls. Many ornaments bit the dust that year.

Sticking with the texture and curves today, although I did start out with the intention of having verticals and no curves, and I'm back to my reds and oranges. It must be the cold snap we're having that I need to feel warm. Once again the painting evolved as I went along. Click here to see the work in progress photos...

Tropical Landscape Painting, Daily Painting, "Golden Palm" by Carol Schiff, 16x20" Oil, SOLD

I was going through some of my old files, and found this tropical Landscape painting that I did several years ago.  I was in morning light, in an area covered with palmettos.  I was fascinated by the play of light on the palm fronds, forming beautiful abstract shapes.

Daily Painting | Small Oil Painting | Tropical Landscape Painting | Island House by Carol Schiff | 6x8" Oil SOLD

When I was a little girl, growing up in the corn fields of Ohio, I dreamed of palm trees and the sea.  When I first saw the ocean, when I was nine years old,  I knew I would live there.

This daily painting of a tropical landscape, made me wonder how many other little girls have that same dream.  Ocean breezes and balmy breezes are powerful thoughts when you are shoveling snow, day after day, in sub-zero weather.

SOLD
This little house is in the Bahama's.  A blooming Poinciana tree  brightens the landscape.  The nice thing about dreams.....sometimes they do come true!

"Monet's Water Lily Pond" by Ann McCann 16 X 20 Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

I painted this in response to the request from the Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas for paintings "like the Masters." I have always admired this colorful version of Monet's oft repeated scene with the red background. This is currently available at the Dutch Art Gallery (Dallas) for purchase. I also have a smaller study (9 X 12) that I did for this work which is available for purchase.

Rose Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, 6x8" Oil

This is a little painting I did recently.  I was experimenting with using safflower oil as a medium.  I normally paint using only a touch of turps when I want to free up the paint a little, but have decided to try another technique.

Purchase here
110. + shipping
I can see it will take a little adjustment on my part, as I tend to use too much oil and get some soupy paint.  However, I like the over all effect and the nice finish it leaves.  No more varnish needed!

The down side is it requires drying time and of course, there is the fire hazard.  I have been told to put my rags and paper towels in a plastic bag at the end of the day and wet them down with water to  make sure they don't spontaneously combust.  I also have one of those fire proof trash cans, so I will use both methods to keep the studio (and my house) safe.

Thanks for viewing my blog today.

Breaking Through by Lynda Cookson

"Breaking Through" ... I love this abstract. I can feel the sun, the warmth of that sun, a warm evening sky, the sea, and the white foam of the waves.

A residency at the restored stone cottage famine village of Cill Rialaig, near Ballinskelligs in Co Kerry, Ireland, was the inspiration for this acrylic on board. The strong winter wind whipped the foam from the top of the waves and blew it against the cliffs. That, together with the sense of all the ancient (and not so ancient) lives lived there created a very spiritual atmosphere. Absolutely wonderful weather and wonderful inspiration!

"Breaking Through" is for sale HERE ... or just click the image and you'll be taken through to the correct page where you'll find the price and the size of the painting.
