Daily Painting, Lighthouse Painting, "Jupiter Lighthouse as seen from the Square Grouper" by Carol Schiff, 8x10x1.5" Oil SOLD

This small daily painting has a very long title!  I named it such because of memories of the day I spent at the "Square Grouper", a local place where you sit in the sand, shaded by palms with your toes in the inlet, drink beer or wine, gaze at the lighthouse across the inlet and watch boats make their way out to the sea.

 If you stretch your neck out just a tiny bit, you can see the beautiful Atlantic.  On summer afternoons, big puffy white clouds form as the cool ocean breezes meet the warmer inland air.  The perfect backdrop for that red lighthouse!

When I think of Florida, I think of spending days just like that!  Having my daughter by my side made it even better.

My niece Kayla, asked me to paint a small portrait of her dog.  It reminded me of all the dog portraits I did, when I first started painting.

 People have such an emotional connection with their pets.

  I  enjoy the personality that show in pictures of dogs and I strive to capture that quality in my paintings.

 Sunsets are one of my recurring themes and it just kind of happened before I knew it.  Usually it does not happen that way for me.  Usually, I struggle, I scrape, I try and try again.  Sometimes I pull it off to my liking....sometimes I do not.

During our stay in the mountains last month, we visited the apple orchard several times.  The apples are great, but the bakery is my favorite.......apple cider doughnuts, apple cake and apple fritters...YUM!

I like to think this apple ended up in one of my favorite goodies.

Last month, my friends and I went on a photo shoot in the Blue Ridge Mountains.  We rode the country roads, looking for scenic farms.

 I couldn't resist this old ragged barn, on it's last legs.  I painted with a palette knife hoping to bring the scene to life.

It was a hot September day and the grasses had turned a golden brown.

I really enjoyed creating this art.  Sometimes it is nice to just get in the zone, no particular plan, and let the subconscious take over.

I love playing with paint and these represent some of my favorite colors.  I didn't plan to do a seascape, but it feels like one, especially of the tropical waters in the Caribbean Islands.

The last few months have been hectic for me.  This is just what I needed to calm me down.

When my Pieces of 8 art buddies were visiting me, in my mountain condo, we left our paints at home.  We still had plenty to do!

Each day we would venture out, with our cameras in hand.  One day we drove through the countryside, looking for rustic barns.

The original has sold, but I am pleased to be able to offer a giclee print at the link under the image.

The eatery is still there, but under a new name and for me, much of the charm has been lost.  I am glad I painted this scene, while it was a popular and vibrant location, filled with local memorabilia.

This painting was featured as the Art Works poster art several years ago.
