"No Misting Required" Original Oil Palette Knife Painting by Hallie Kohn Art

This orchid painting was a photograph I took while at the US Botanic Garden in Washington DC. Such an amazing display; I had never realized quite how many varieties of orchid there actually are. Wish I knew the name of this one--please comment if you know it.

I have had orchids in my home (pre-children) and do love them. It takes a special type of plant lover to keep these going well. Seems a painting of one would be a much better option these days!

Find included two photos of additional orchids seen at the garden. Looking forward to painting more of them. Such a beautiful, juicy color palette of flowers!

"Sunflower 2" Original Palette Knife Painting by Hallie Kohn Art

This happy sunflower was a commissioned piece to be given as a second anniversary and birthday gift. I was glad to have the opportunity to paint another one, forward facing this time, with the same bright blue sky. Hope they love it!

"Allium Obliquum" Original Palette Knife Painting by Hallie Kohn Art

My parents told my husband and me about the most awesome gardens called Northwind Perennial Farm in Burlington. We took our boys there one afternoon and had an amazing time exploring the paths through the different gardens and ponds. There were huge golden frogs, plants galore, antiques, geese, donkeys, chicken, swallow nests--lots of little places and things to explore for two little boys and a great place for us too.

I took plenty of photos that day and was of course drawn to these awesome yellow alliums--had to look them up to learn their name. Loved the little purple flowers scattered behind them, with their contrasting color, shape, and size. So, I might just turn into an allium collector, or at least see how many different varieties I can paint!

"Tiny Sunflower" Original Palette Knife Painting by Hallie Kohn Art

The southwest side of our house is next to the garage and a little side yard where I plant seeds with the perennials. Last year I had the most adorable fairie garden with delicate little flowers in all different colors. This year, I thought I bought the same brand and packaging, but think I must have purchased a butterfly or bird loving variety instead.

There were cosmos (which grow very tall), and then I was trying to figure out what these thick stalks were going to be--they seemed to be everywhere and so huge! We soon realized they were sunflowers and my little guys both got kind of excited about them. And with all the excitement (and eager volunteers) I had no choice but to paint one against a gorgeous summer sky.
