Color and Light Reflections by Pamela Blaies

Antique Glass and Red Tulips
oil on linen
24" x 18"

These red tulips begged me to take them home from the market. I had fun painting them all last week. In this composition, I put some antique bottles right up next to a bouquet of them which created some beautiful color and light reflections.

Floral Palette Knife Painting

I love Van Gogh.  The one thing that most people seem to know is that he painted feverishly until he completed his paintings.  Don't mistake painting feverishly with painting without knowledge.  New discoveries are being made about Van Gogh and his studio practices.  Through the use of x-ray equipment and new technologies, it is being purported that Van Gogh was a highly skilled artist and an expert in color theory.

A few weeks ago I was inspired to paint this thickly textured palette knife painting using brilliant azure blues, effusive reds, and warm golds.  Though spontaneously painted,  I still apply color theory and the rest of the elements of principle and design.  After concentrating on using those elements for so many years, they just seem to come naturally to me now.  It's the price of years and years of study.  So, when someone asks me how long it takes me to complete a particular painting,  I'm tempted to say, "Oh, about thirty years or so."  However, I just smile and say, "Long enough".

This 16"x20" textured acrylic flower palette knife painting is titled, "Red on Blue".  I was just informed by my representing gallery that it sold over the weekend.  I'm extremely thankful to have folks who appreciate and love my work.  Thank you! - Jill Saur

Floral Palette Knife Painting by Jill Saur

My 48"x48" painting, "Joyful Encounter" is featured in this months magazine,"Art Galleries and Artist's of the South", by Matilda's Art Gallery in Historic Roswell, Ga. I also had an unexpected surprise when I saw it on television this weekend on HGTV's, "Green Home Giveaway". They were filming the galleries in Historic Roswell and artworks represented by those galleries.

This painting emerged out of my imagination, which is both exciting and challenging at the same time. It might be hard to see in the photo, but the entire painting was executed with a palette knife and it's loaded with texture.

This painting is for sale at Matilda's Art Gallery in Roswell, but you can contact me through my website and I'll put you in touch with them. Thanks for viewing!  www.JillSaurFineArt.com

Red Flowers in a Glass Vase by Pamela Blaies

Red Flowers in a Glass Vase
20" x 16"
Oil on Canvas

I am thankful to live in such a great country. Red, white and blue are everywhere I look as I enjoy this July 4th celebration weekend. In tribute I chose one of our nation's colors as the focal point of a painting. Have a safe and happy Independence Day weekend. God bless the USA!
