Coral Reef Painting, Key Largo Painting, Daily Painting, Large Oil Painting, 20x24x1.5" Oil

This is the largest of  my coral reef series....the largest so far.  It is highly textured, not with medium, but with paint.

purchase here

I sometimes paint over a failed painting, such as in this case.  Conventional wisdom will advise you to sand down your canvas and start over.  I prefer to let the texture of the failed painting show through.  Sometimes, I also allow pieces of the original art to show.

I originally had an abstract piece on this canvas, but although I liked some parts of the abstract, I  was not happy with the whole piece.  The canvas set in my studio for several years before I attempted to reuse it.  This technique may not be for everyone, but I am the texture queen, so, it appeals to me.

Thanks for viewing my art today.

Abstract Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, Triptych Painting

Every now and then, I just have to do an abstract.  Usually painting knives are involved.  This one is no exception.   I wanted to take a square composition and turn it into a rectangle. This us what I came up with.

and here is the original square composition.  Which do you prefer?

I have been in North Carolina, in the mountains for the past few weeks.  We are enjoying our time here.

The other day we went to the park and had a picnic lunch, something we never do at home.  There were ducks and geese everywhere.

We had a relaxing and fun time and our sandwiches tasted twice as good as usual.  The crisp fall weather comes and goes.  It is so much fun to be in the mountains this time of the year and I cannot wait for the fall color.   I will share with you when it comes.

When I work on the computer,  I can see chipmonks running back and forth, across the patio.  They are so fast, it is hard to get a photo, but I did manage to catch one stuffing his cheeks with goodies.

Have a great fall day, wherever you are.

Seascape Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, Florida Surf Painting, 8x16x.75" Oil

I am trying to break my current addiction to painting flowers, so I dug through my files and found a great image of the ocean.  I have a new (for me) size canvas, 8x16" that I thought would work well for the image.

I have to admit, I enjoyed painting this scene.  My choices of subject matter are always based on emotion and on this day......the waves filled my need for action.

Thanks for reading my blog today....If I were in Florida, I'd be off to the beach.

This is not my usual painting.  This painting was commissioned by a client, who wanted to use it on his CD cover.  He had written and recorded songs and wanted the cover to represent specific lyrics.

I allowed him to dictate the exact scene he requested, which resulted in this painting.  The bad news is, he was not happy with the results.  The good news is, he had paid an non-refundable deposit.

Although my deposit, was not enough to cover the materials and labor I expended, I believe it was a profitable experience.  I learned a lot of dos and don'ts.  He ended up purchasing another painting.

We parted ways, but I believe we were both happy with the outcome.

Violin Girl paintings by Karen Tarlton palette knife impressionism

Two new favorites are finished.
THE PAINTINGS:
This is part of my "Women in the Arts series". I varnish coffee stained violin sheet music on a primed canvas and then add layer upon layer of first acrylic and then oils. I allow some of the sheet music to show through, where the paint is just thinnly glazed with oil, so that you see some of what it is she and I are so inspired by....the music! It takes a lot of time to paint these figurative paintings but I enjoy every second of it and love the results! I hope you do too.

Fish Painting, Angelfish Painting, Textured Painting,SOLD

Sometime ago, I visited Key Largo, which inspired a series of paintings, I called my Coral Reef Series.  One of  favorites of the series is called "Angels on Parade".

My client, who purchased this painting, also commissioned a companion piece.  Below is the second painting.

The client was very pleased with the pair of artworks.

Island Marketplace, Large Figurative Painting, 52x26x1.5" Original Painting

I consider myself to be a daily painter.  As a daily painter, most of my work is small, many times just 6x8".

My painting today is a different story at 52" x 26".  Not my largest painting ever...but right up there.

Purchase Here

I enjoy painting large, but it does present other issues.  Framing or no frame?  Such a large piece means a large investment in framing....a frame your client may or may not approve.

Where do I store it?  Not everyone has the luxury of a spacious studio.  I am one of those people.  Since downsizing, I have even less space to store unsold artwork.

The logistics of painting such a large piece, is not to be ignored.  My aging knees protest at the thought of climbing up and down a step stool to paint.

So, this piece may continue to be one of my rare, larger efforts.

Thanks for reading my blog today.

Does anyone read my blog?

I  thought I would catch up with the stats on my blog, today, and found some very interesting results!

For instance......the number 1 blog post, after 9 years of posting, is a small abstract, I barely remember.  Posted on August 18, 2013, it has 6 times the amount of views of the number 2 blog post.

The second most popular post, was this little floral.

I do not consider either to be in the top 10 of my most "memorable" works.

Does my blog need a major overhaul?  Or should it die a quiet death?  Is the day of the "blog" over?

Any comments would be appreciated.

I painted with brush and palette knife, creating texture for interest.  I popped the autumn colors, for the same reason.

I almost always use a black frame, as it really shows off the colors.

Floral Painting, Flower Painting, Rose Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, 8x8x1.5" Oil SOLD

My favorite rose painting.

I was pleased with this one.

SOLD

Roses have always been difficult for me.  This time I tried to channel Elio.  I was determined not to describe each petal,  I did my best to remember the softness and translucency of a rose petal.  I wanted to pop the colors, but, not too much.  Finally, I made myself stop!

Yes, I like this one.....and I hope you do too.

From White Sands to Red Mountains by Carrie Jacobson

White Sands / 10x10 /  sold

It's Wednesday, and I'm in Tubac, AZ, where my dad and stepmother live. My brother and sister came out, and we celebrated Dad's 90th birthday at a very fun party on Saturday evening. Laurie has gone back to Connecticut, and Rand and I leave in a couple hours, him for Connecticut and me for Utah.
I'm so excited about seeing the red mountains, the spires, the big open sky, and painting there! I'll post my paintings here on the blog, on my website - Jacobson Arts - and on Facebook - (https://www.facebook.com/carriebjacobson , https://www.facebook.com/carriejacobsonartist/).                                                                                                  Just FYI, because of the vagaries of blog publishing and emailing, the paintings will probably appear here last.
When you see the one you want, email me at carrieBjacobson@gmail.com, message me via Facebook, or text or call me at 860-442-0246. First one to offer to buy the painting gets it. The paintings will be priced lower while I am on the trip than they will be when I get home. And they will run from about $35 to about $500.

I've never tried to sell more or less live, on the road, so this is an experiment for me, too! If you have ideas as we go along about how to make the process more efficient, more fun, more enjoyable, please let me know.

***
Thoughts from the Road

I LOVE LOOKING at the landscape, the towns, the cities, the signs, as I travel and thinking about what kind of people live in these places, and how they view their lives and environment.
I like "Will Rogers World Airport." It could have been "International Airport,"
but Oklahoma City chose "World."

Below, Daylight Donuts in Atkins, Arkansas, where - thank heavens! - you can get expresso.

***
Turning 90

Above, there's Dad in the pink shirt, listening to my brother give a little speech, below right. Below left, Paula, my stepmother.

***
Dog of the Day

It's Tanner, who lives with friends and collectors here in Arizona.
He's a great dog, and usually walks around with a toy in his mouth. Adorable!

A Final Thought

Whimsical Farm animal paintings pig and cow by Karen Tarlton palette knife fine art impressionism

New to my farm animal series. I'm having fun with finding the "soulfulness" in their eyes :)

Susan adores her pets and it is obvious they adore each other.  They are truly soul mates.

This painting is also available as a giclee print in the size of your choice here.

I really enjoyed trying to convey the love of these magnificent specimens .
